Non-interventionist Trump allies are cheering President Trump's Thursday night decision to buck his most senior advisers and abandon an airstrike on Iran, saying the decision could help him win reelection while preventing a major regional war.
Trump canceled the bombing of Iran after authorizing it, saying via Twitter he learned 150 Iranians might die, and that it would not be proportional to the loss of one U.S. drone.
National security adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly favored the attack, after issuing aggressive recent statements on Iran.
He doesnt trust them. He felt that they were cornering him into something he did not want to do," said a former White House official whose work included foreign policy, adding he believes Trump weighed the effects of an attack on his reelection in deciding against it.

if Trump doesn’t trust his advisers, they must be removed. globalist neo-cons out
the real war is on the border.
Don’t believe any of this crap.
Trump is not going to get suckered into something that would be detrimental to the country or him.
Military force should be a last resort - we’ve had enough military action in the last two decades. We certainly have enough ways to severely punish Iran non-militarily - there’s a lot of room between bombing Iran and sending them palettes loaded with cash.
I’m not going to put Bolton in the same league as McCain and Romney - by all accounts Bolton is a far more serious and respectable person than either of those two failures. But military force should be a last resort, not a first response.
Trump didn’t buck his advisors. He simply made a decision. Next time it will likely be a different decision.
But if it makes the non-interventionist happy today, good.
I don’t trust Bolton at all. Too strange. Why Trump gets these swamp dwellers for advisors is beyond me.
Amen to that!
A “former” White House official doesn’t know squat about what went on last night.
They try to minimize Trump’s role... he is the command in chief and makes the decisions... he doesn’t buck anyone.
The President made the correct decision. Minor air strikes on s-hole countries with s-head leaders do not advance our national security interests.
I would normally be in favor of anything that hurts the despicable mullahs, but in this case President Trump made the right decision. He had previously said that if any Americans were killed by Iran there would be a disproportionate response. That wasn’t the case here, and times of high tensions are EXACTLY why we have, and deploy, drones. That way a situation doesn’t get out of control... because it is just a machine.
Besides, I am quite sure that that sleazebag Kerry helped forulate the Iranian strategy, with the goal of making Trump look bad so that he would lose next year. So screw the Savage, uncivilized goat-humpets, and ditto for horse-faced Kerry.
Trump's official beat-down of Jeb Bush began when he stood up there at that debate and publicly accused George W. Bush of lying to get the U.S. into war with Iraq. He knows damn well that his base of support would be put at risk if he gets this country involved in another stupid war in another Islamic sh!t-hole ... for a bunch of globalists who personify the very "Swamp" he promised to drain.
We are supposed to believe this guy?
“Steven Nelson joined the Washington Examiner as a White House reporter after five years at U.S. News & World Report. He attended the College of William and Mary and lives in Washington, D.C.”
I call BS on the He doesnt trust them. He felt that they were cornering him into something he did not want to do,” said a former White House official whose work included foreign policy. . . .” story!
IOW, FAKE NEWS!
I believe he called off the strike because someone came up with a better plan of attack!
I think there is a lot more to the story.
“the real war is on the border.”
preach it! It is the only issue.
“I dont trust Bolton at all. Too strange. Why Trump gets these swamp dwellers for advisors is beyond me.”
They are sounding boards who offer Trump an opinion that he can weigh his decisions against. I don’t want “yes” men on my team. I want men who will provide an intellectual argument so I can look at all options and make the best decision.
Bolton should be kicked out of the administration.
I hope that isn't the case. I hope, rather, that he respects their opinions and takes them into consideration but weighs other opinions too and makes his own mind up. But if it is true that he thinks they are trying to trap him into a war then he should either make it clear that he doesn't and give them a chance to regain his confidence or cut them loose. Even if they aren't dealing with him in a shady manner, he has to be able to trust his staff.
