The exact wording is “due to heightened military activities and increased political tensions.”
The balloon just went up.
No, with Iran shooting at our drones in that space, it’s probably precautionary so they avoid a replay of the Malaysia Airlines shootdown in Ukraine when airlines continued flying directly over the hostile zone.
No balloon up.
The rest of the FAA statement:
which present an inadvertent risk to U.S. civil aviation operations and potential for miscalculation or mis-identification,”
This is confusing. Either the FAA didnt get the word that the strikes have been called off with a Stand Down order... OR the leaks that revealed the Stand Down order were part of a Misinformation Campaign to confuse the Iranians.
This NOTAM will severely disrupt flight activities, United canceled its Filght 49, more to come.
This is not done lightly.
“The balloon just went up.”
Well gold went up.
The Iranians expect an attack, they could well launch a SAM swarm that will home on anything flying.
Very tight battle space, jumpy operators.
The High Frequency Skyking radio traffic we’ve seen today is consistent with the assertion that at least SOME sort of strike package was authorized.
Skyking is the collective callsign for sending messages to all Single Integrated Operation Plan (SIOP) aircraft and missile Ops which are also responsible for deploying various aircraft.
I dont mean the strikes on particularly, just that the game is playing. You want to rattle the chain to change a few things. This aint checkers, it might be three level chess. See what crawls out from the folks over there. I dont believe DJT will telegraph any thing but he may make them sweat.
You are nuts if you don’t think firing SAMs in a zone will reroute flights. After the MH17 disaster in Ukraine, it takes almost nothing to cause them to slightly reroute flights.
Firing off SAMs is all it would take. No matter if the spy plane was slightly in or just outside Iranian airspace, the fact remains SAMs are shooting things in that spot.
It’s a no brainer to rout around that.
OR... strikes or not, we are keeping airliners out of a spot where Iran is torching off SAMs yesterday.
This is a precautionary measure to prevent risk to civilian air traffic. Not everything that happens is part of a political chess game.
And I was so looking forward to vacationing in Tehran.
Then why issue the FAA order after the Ny times story?
Lots of foreign airlines flying around the area.
I agree. And I also think we probably should not be posting about radio traffic or B52 movements.
