NN)The suicide rate in the United States continues to climb, with a rate in 2017 that was 33% higher than in 1999, new research finds.
Suicide rates among people 15 to 64 increased significantly during that period, rising from 10.5 per 100,000 people in 1999 to 14 per 100,000 in 2017, the most recent year with available data, according to annual research published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics on Thursday.

Certainly valid reasons you point out there.
When folks have themselves at the center of their universe, the tunnel of their lives looks like endless darkness when circumstances shift for the worse.
Suicide is a very selfish act.
I blame the schools, parents, and liberal politicians who have turned a large majority of the youth in this country, into weak, whining, and selfish individuals, who have no respect for anyone else, and who seem to think that the world owes them whatever their little hearts desire. And when they don’t get their way, they pout, stamp their feet, and throw temper tantrums. They’ve been taught to be intolerant of others, their thoughts, and beliefs, and this intolerance can lead to violence against those with opposing viewpoints. These kids have never been made to accept responsibility for their actions, but instead, are taught to blame something, or someone else for their behavior, and failures in life. They have no idea how to handle stress, or disappointment either. Instead of facing their problems head-on, they feel it’s easier to just check out. I’d bet that most of the people who commit suicide have had little or no religious beliefs in their lives.
No God, no life.
You are correct. But the big three causes outlined in posts 8 and 9 sum up the main reasons that people turn to drugs.
The U.S. murder rate is dropping, and in general, changes in suicide and homicide rates follow each other. So being really cynical, this means the suicide rate is staring to decline and the news is bringing it up while they can make a issue of it.

The suicide rate in the military doubled 8 instantly in 2008 when Obama changed the rules of engagement.
Exactly! Wonder what the rate is in the black community...they are preached hopelessness by the hour.
I think social media, smart phones and the 24 hour news cycle all probably contribute to this.

Lower than whites - heres the data (above)
From 1997 to 2016, the percent of suicides committed with guns dropped from 60% to 50%.
Yet those opposed to an armed population claim guns are a major cause of suicide.
During the same period, the per capita number of guns went up from .78 to 1.3, about a two thirds increase.
More guns, but a lower percentage of guns used in suicide.

Psychoactive drugs having been lying in wait.
Fentanyl death?
**the coming climate change apocalypse.**
There were people who killed themselves rather than be gassed to death by Haley’s Comet in 1910, as scientists said we might be.
People are killing themselves because they prefer death to Clown World.
Add another factor: overuse of antidepressants.
I know; the ones they gave me after major surgery caused major hallucinations and I quickly flushed the rest & got back to normal.
“More guns, but a lower percentage of guns used in suicide.”
And still, the majority of gun related deaths are suicides.
Wonder why the gun-grabbers don’t focus on suicide prevention as an excuse to ban guns.
“including”
A good possibility. I know someone who had a relative OD. Pathologist listed as suicide. They had to fight to get it put down as an OD.
Now, I have no idea of the veracity of the situation. They stated there was no depression/cause for suicide, though they were a lifetime user up to death. Suicide is more painful for the relatives too so harder to accept sometimes.
On the other hand, addicts can get pretty depressed. On the other other hand, the harder the drug, the more likely to get something too strong and make a fatal mistake.
Then there’s insurance. No life insurance pay out for suicide.
?
Has anyone ever been prosecuted for suicide?
