McConnell vows to 'vigorously' oppose Moore's Senate bid

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) signaled on Thursday that he and his allies will actively work to oppose Roy Moore's bid for Alabama's Senate seat after the conservative firebrand announced he was jumping into the race.

"We'll be opposing Roy Moore vigorously," McConnell told reporters after returning to the Capitol after a White House briefing on Iran.

McConnell's comments come after he warned, during an interview with the Associated Press shortly before Moore announced his bid, that he would "oppose him in every way."

Moore announced on Thursday afternoon that he would launch a bid for Alabama's Senate seat after previously winning the party's nomination in 2017, only to lose to now-Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) in a contentious special election.

His candidacy is a national nightmare for Republicans. They blame him for losing what they view as a safe GOP seat in a deeply red state that President Trump won easily in 2016.

Moore lost the race after facing multiple accusations of pursuing sexual and romantic relationships with teenage girls decades ago when he was in his 30s; he has denied any wrongdoing.

Moore is a pure idiot.

He needs to be destroyed in the primary.

They’ve been told to by the Ministry of Propaganda.

This is the primary. This is when we get rid of the weak candidates.

Great point.

For me, it’s all about winning the Senate seat. And Moore is the only Republican who could possibly lose it.

I would vote for Roy if I lived in Alabama. To hell with the establishment GOP.

Without the opposition of both parties and the Ministry of Propaganda, Moore would have won.
Unless we replace Bush League Republicans like Grahamnesty and McConnell soon, they will eventually get that final amnesty they have been working on since 2006.
That will result in a permanent Democrat majority and the necessity of learning Spanish to live in our own country.

Yep....but Moore was a 'cringe worthy' campaigner. He blew it right after the allegations when Hannity asked him about them and he responded 'he didn't recall'...

It was as bad as Akin's interview on rape back when he ran against McCaskill.

I’m not crazy about Roy Moore running again, but THIS gets Mitch’s vigor going? Ugh. Please, VIGOROUSLY oppose something the Democrats are doing. Please, vigorously support the President on something. Anything. Publicly. Vigorously.
*************************************************
McConnell had FINALLY got the judicial confirmation process up to speed and for the past 3 weeks (including this week) has been averaging about 4 confirmations a week. Now looking at the Senate executive calendar for next week I see that he has ZERO judicial cloture or confirmation votes scheduled. After that....what ... the summer doldrums? He needs to get back to focusing on critical Senate work and spend less time pow-wowing with the Chamber of Commerce!

Focus, Mitch, focus! This is 2019 and not 2020.

That’s alright in a primary.
If Moore wins the primary though, Mitch MUST fully support him.

If not for moderate republicans, we wouldn’t have 120 new judges confirmed which will keep the country in tact for 40 years. Now as far as learning Spanish, immigration is up since 2016.

Yes, and the turtle doesn’t belong in Alabama politics!

Out! Out!! Out!!!

The turtle generally works against Trump.

Absolutely must keep AL Senate seats in GOP column. 2020 and 2022 cycles we will have a very hard time to stop a loss of seats.

Need to build a buffer to protect against losses to keep Senate in GOP hands. Moore needs to be defeated in the primary. He will be targeted easily by DEM ops and media.

Many vets returning from 'Nam showed inappropriate behavior to females.
They also showed such inappropriate behavior as jumping into bathtubs at hearing loud noises, and awakening from sleep screaming.

A war zone is a very different place from 'normal' America.

> why are so many on FR coming out against a solid conservative? <

I’m not from Alabama, so I don’t have a horse in this race.

Wait a minute. I’m not from Alabama, but I do have a horse in this race. Because we need a GOP Senate to balance out a Democrat House.

I really don’t care how conservative Moore is. He carries ugly baggage. Maybe that’s his fault. Maybe it isn’t. But it is what it is.

And he’s goofy. He rode a horse to the polls last time. Who the heck does that? Maybe Davy Crockett did it back in 1840. But only a circus clown - or Moore - would do something like that today.

And Moore is a loser. He proved that last time. So I sure wish the Alabama GOP would nominate anyone else. A street commissioner would do.

Moore is simply just not equipped to overcome the rep that was created about him.
He seem to lack the self awareness to ever see this.
Just that alone makes the case in my book.
