Hollow-points are only illegal in New Jersey. In NJ you can have them in your home and you can take them to the range but you cannot carry your gun loaded with them in public unless you are law enforcement.

I would do the same thing, Texas Resident. Unfortunately, my 20-year-old daughter lives in Manhattan.
I live in Massachusetts and have never owned a gun (although I have shot a .45 handgun before and also shot .22 rifles as a boy).
But I’m planning a move to Tennessee next year, and I will definitely be buying a gun and going to the shooting range after I’m settled there.
