In your ideal world, all American cargo would be on American vessels, and all crews would be the nationality of the flag the vessel is carrying. That’s not how it works. You got a lot of ground work to lay before you arbitrarily decide that you are redefining the scope of the Navy’s mission.

“Guess what we’re going to be able to do about a Chinese move on Taiwan if we’re hip deep in a major war in the Middle East again.”

LOL, you wouldn’t support that treaty obligation anyway, lol.

The isolationist/pacifists make a huge calculation that we would invade Iran. It would be a largely standoff war and attack on their nuclear capability (which will happen at some point anyway) with few US casualties as Iran has no aircraft and no deep water navy.

I think you just don't get it, sir.

Some of us no longer trust the U.S. government to use the right hammer abroad when it refuses to even pick up a damn hammer here at home.

It’s possible for America to walk and chew gum at the same time

The Congressman’s statement is ridiculous and extremly short sighted.

They want our support on Iran we should get something in return. It’s that simple. Right now conservatives are the girl who gives it up on the first date to the Uniparty and doesn’t understand why they don’t respect her later. We need to play hard ball with the political elites. Even if it means destroying the GOP and forming a 3rd party. Money and power is all they will respect.

I suspect that labor laws are the primary reason for cruise ships’ foreign registries. Imagine a Carnival seven night Caribbean cruise leaving an east coast port costing $5,000 per person instead of $729 and you would have an empty ship.

I'm not redefining the Navy's mission. The U.S. Navy was never intended to serve as a military force to protect vessels from Foreign Country A carrying cargo from Foreign Country B to Foreign Country C.

If you don't agree with this, then you're really part of the problem. This is the kind of sh!t-bag "globalism" that is destroying this country. A government that pisses away thousands of Americans lives and trillions of taxpayer dollars on operations like the one I described above has no moral right to exist anymore.

Agreed. We can start with wall funding. Then next funding the naval operations in the Persian gulf. It really shouldn’t be difficult. Where there is a will, there is a way.

“Even if it means destroying the GOP and forming a 3rd party”

That is the Liberal-tarian dream...

Allowing the Commie Left to completely takeover all 3 branches, along with the propaganda American Pravda media.

I am not in support of draft dodgers having any power at all, but we don’t have a draft anymore, so regardless of who is the CIC, the volunteers know what they sign up for.

We are infinitely blessed with our current CIC. I would not have said that under the previous admin. The Saudi connections to admins before that are disturbing, but the middle east has never been easy, all the way back to Biblical times. In the best interest of our nation, sometimes ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ applies. It is often only by looking back at history that we might find errors made. In the present, you only have what you can see in front of you, not a vision of the future.

I suspect that labor laws are the primary reason for [INSERT RANDOM ITEM FROM LIST BELOW HERE] ...

1. ... "free trade."

2. ... open borders.

3. ... American politicians selling out their country to foreign interests.

4. ... American politicians pissing away thousands of lives and trillions of dollars on endless wars all over the globe.

5. ... just about any un-American policy you can think of.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't read the section of the U.S. Constitution that says Americans have a God-given right to a $729 Caribbean cruise.

I didn’t imply that a cheapo cruise is our God-given right. Just sort of stating an elementary economic fact of life.

Freedom of navigation is freedom of navigation. We defend the rights of all as part of the law of the seas, so as to protect our own rights.

You in fact are redefining the mission.

We patrol the South China Sea to protect our right, and all ocean going vessels rights, to freely navigate international waters. We do the same in the Persian gulf, and any other internationally recognized open ocean navigation route.

My reference was to action necessary with resources now available.

The wall is being built, Mexico is in action and the Navy is there.

Do you a-holes all read from the same script? Whenever you're losing an argument, just accuse others of being with Russians/Chinese/Iranians/Syrians. Idiot.

Do think it's possible to get your point across without acting like an overbearing adolescent?

Do you think you can have a discussion without labeling those you disagree with as "a-holes" or "Idiot"?

You are always correct to ask questions and be cautious or skeptical. You are wrong to not trust anything because of some things. If you don’t trust any of the hammers, you best start arguing for getting rid of the hammers.

But you know disarmament is not an answer either. So you have to make up your mind, because the ship captains, aircraft commanders, and other military leaders are out there carrying live ordnance around all the time, and you better trust them to use judgment and make good decisions based on our national interests, or you better call them all home.
