U.S. Women’s National Soccer team co-captain Megan Rapinoe refused to sing the national anthem during Tuesday’s World Cup game in France, only six days after the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Rapinioe stood silent with her arms behind her back as the rest of the U.S. team placed their hands over their hearts and sang the Star-Spangled Banner ahead of Tuesday’s game in Reims, France.

I don’t have a problem with running up the score, that is required because goal differential stats count, but they way this team celebrated goals was DISGUSTING! Had I been referring, and a team celebrated like that, I would have given yellow cards for unsportsmanlike behavior.

It is actually more respectful to your opponent to play hard until the last whistle than it is to condescend by not playing hard once you have a sizable lead. I was involved as a photographer, with Uconn women’s basketball for 35 years and never saw them disrespect an opponent. The athletes played hard every play of every game and walked off the court knowing they gave their best. There were no celebrations or glorifications but simply a pride in team performance.
In this era of mass media highlights and hero worship, athletes have become more like movie stars each competing for adulation as opposed to victories. I have seen celebrations by athletes who’s teams were losing by large amounts. The athletes now celebrate themselves not their teams.
Unfortunately, women’s sports has been politicized by the socialist revolutionaries to push an agenda. The most disturbing thing about the team USA women’s soccer team is that they left a great player off their team because she declined to wear a “gay pride” jersey saying it was against her religious beliefs. I ask you, what was team USA doing wearing “gay pride” shirts in the first place?
The players are more loyal to the gay flag than the US flag.
I care ... the is the USA team .. “MY” team. Fire her skinny but and put people in there that represent the VALUES of the USA.
Mainly because with my singing voice, it would be a sign of disrespect.

Was once a major US Womens’ Soccer fan, took my daughters to see their prev World Cup games.
That ended when the America-hating ingrate Rapinoe chose to kneel in solidarity w Kaeperkick about 2 years ago, and the team members seemingly had no issue with this.
I, as well, hope the US team either sends America-hating Rapinoe off the team, or does not win further; they do not represent our fine Country.

I have been watching USWNT since 1999...I had fun watching 1999 WWC final between China and US. I was able to enjoy that game without hearing about some US team player complaining about the country.
Now, it is a different story...
I am not really enjoying the USWNT game with Megan Rapinoe on the team...
During the national anthem before the Thailand game, Rapinoe made no attempt to hide her unhappiness while she was standing...She did not have to sing...But, it would have been great if she looked happy like her teammates.
US Soccer Fed will not send her home. If that ever happens, Rapinoe will probably file a lawsuit. I think Rapinoe will continue to do whatever she wants to do...She knows that Federation will not do anything.
Maybe US Soccer Federation is hoping that Rapinoe will bring more liberal people to USWNT games...Maybe it does not care about losing fans who are conservative...
I have visited soccer discussion forums...Some of those posters make anti-Trump comments while discussing how some players performed...Why? Why do you have to make anti-Trump comments while discussing a soccer game? I have to conclude that most posters in that soccer forum are liberals...

Our women’s soccer team, (Florida State) won the NCAA Championship earlier this season. On our team we have players from China, Venezuela, Germany, Iceland, Ireland and England. Every single one of those players along with our Americans stand and place their hand over their heart for the anthem. All of the other players on the National team stand, place their hand over their heart and sing. It’s Rapinoe, not the team.
I was planning to watch but not now.

I agree with concept about playing hard until the last minute...
My issue with Thailand game was celebration after goals...After 6 or 7 goals, players should have calmed down a little bit...
Angela Hucles, a former USWNT member, did talk about the Thailand game. Hucles was doing the commentary during the game between Germany and Spain...She defended 13-0 score...
She did say that a few goal celebrations were too excessive...She also asked why should USWNT members care about how Thailand players feel...

“Using this blanketed patriotism as a defense against what the protest actually is was pretty cowardly. I think the NFL does it,” she told Yahoo Sports. “I felt like the statement from U.S. Soccer, and then the rule they made without ever talking to me, that was the same as what the NFL was doing – just to not have the conversation, to try to just stop me from doing what I’m doing instead of at least having a conversation, and trying to figure out a [solution] that makes sense for everyone.”

And who cares if she goes to the White House? I don’t understand why these vulgar athletes even get invited. It’s a stupid tradition.
It is one thing when someone on a professional sports team behaves in this way. They are merely paid employees of an organization that does not represent the USA. But when it comes to the World Cup and the Olympics, it is supposed to be the USA against the world. We are supposed to get excited about watching the American teams while we chant “USA!”. When the team members go out of their way to insult the USA, its flag or its president, it makes the idea of cheering for them seem kind of silly.
