So we “preserve our interests” while we lose the country? How does that make sense? How relevant will “our interests” be as we lose the country itself?

BTW, trouble in the Gulf means higher oil prices. Big trouble in the Gulf means skyrocketing oil prices.

Skyrocketing oil prices means a slowing of our economy. Perhaps even the threat of a recession.

That (a recession or the threat thereof) gives the Democrats fodder for their 2020 campaign.

All this stuff is linked together.
