Austin ISD to boost Pride Parade participation with church rental money

After protests and complaints about Austin ISD renting space to a church that doesn't allow gay members, the district is getting creative with its response.

It plans to take $10,000 of the money it's received in rent payments, and use it to boost student participation in the Austin Pride parade.

Previously, the district has relied on donations to pay for the transportation, security, and entrance fee to participate.

"Austin ISD is committed to providing welcoming environments to all of our students," said AISD Communication and Engagement Executive Director Reyne Telles. "All means all for us, and that comes in a variety of ways."

Since it began renting out its performing arts center on Sundays to Celebration Church in August, the district has received $182,182.50 in rent payments.

Exploiting the goodwill of the church-- humiliating them by "symbolically" involving them in supporting something that goes against their moral code with their portion of the money --- AND brainwashing kids.

It's demonic. And I don't use that word lightly.

Celebration Church is one of those megachurches that has facilities in suburban Georgetown and (I presume) got so big that they needed a larger facility. Kinda stupid of them to think renting anything from the City of Austin or their school district wasn’t going to come with strings attached.

Let’s see how solid the church’s moral stand becomes. This is one of those moments Christians might call a “test”.

I don’t trust most megachurches to take a faithful stand when money or resources is on the block. They are run like businesses, in nearly every respect. “Customers” have to be kept happy to pay the exorbitant mortgage.
