How a message of acceptance from rural Oklahoma touched people around the world(Barf alert)
CNN ^ | June 11th 2019 | Emanuella Grinberg

When Cody Barlow missed the Pride parade in Tulsa -- the closest celebration to his rural Oklahoma town -- he found another way to be an LGBTQ ally.

Using duct tape and mailbox letters, he decorated the tailgate of his 1991 Chevrolet Silverado with a rainbow pride flag and a message: "Not all country boys are bigots... Happy Pride Month."

Barlow, 28, identifies as a heterosexual man. He has gay friends and relatives who have experienced hatred because of their sexual orientation, he said. He wanted those people and others like them to know they're not alone, even in places where same-sex relationships are not the norm. He shared a picture of his truck on Facebook on Thursday, hoping to encourage compassion. He did not expect it to be shared more than 70,000 times in four days, filling his inbox with messages of gratitude from around the world. "I was trying to reach anyone it would help," he said. "People are sending me these stories, telling me what they've dealt with over the years, telling me they were tearing up and crying while reading this post." "I didn't realize what kind of impact this was going to have." Initially, though, the response was largely anti-LGBTQ, just as he predicted it might be when he posted the photo. "I live in a rural area in Oklahoma, surrounded by small towns in every direction, and I'm sure this is not a very welcome message around here," he wrote on Facebook Thursday. "Obviously doing this isn't going to change the minds of those who are intolerant, but hopefully it can help drown out the hatred with love." His expectations were based on his experience growing up in a rural, predominantly Christian part of the state, he said. "When I was younger, it seemed

What the hell does THAT mean? Is he a lesbian transitioning to a heterosexual man? Is he a homo "identifying" as a heterosexual? What sane, norma. man would say something like that?

How about “is” a heterosexual man? I don’t know if “identifies” is his word, or the writer’s. I think that whole “identifies” thing is just another attempt to mess with language with the goal, in this case, of putting abnormal sexuality on the same level as the normal. You “identify” as this. I “identify” as that. It’s all the same.

It sounds like typical leftist propaganda to me. The story portrays rural people using the worst liberal stereotypes - that they are anti-gay bigots. It seems like another version of the Matthew Shepard myth, updated for the modern era.

My own experience has been that you rural, religious people are usually less likely to show the kind of bigotry that the urban sophisticates project on them than are the urban liberals themselves. I have met more noxious racists and bigots in Cambridge and Boston than in Georgia or Oklahoma.

Somehow the leftist elites can't fathom that not everyone is as bigoted and closed minded as them, or that there aren't gay people happily living in rural areas. Urban leftists are stunned to meet gay men and women who hunt, fish, farm, and don't want anything to do with their urban counterparts.

Reads as fiction. Oklahoma has Democrats and they all tend to be imaginative liars.

Yep. “Is” is still a perfectly good word and there’s zero need for the ridiculous “identify as.” Like gay, queer, and pride were taken over by the leftists, they are taking over “identify.” They know if they control the language, they control the discussion and debate.

Not all country boys are bigots...

That's a message of acceptance?!

Just substitute the designation of any minority for "country boys," and you can readily see that it is a provocative and biased outrage:

Not all Jews are bigots...

Not all Blacks are bigots...

Not all Latinos are bigots...

Well, it depends upon what the meaning of "is" is. - Bill Clinton

Excellent observation.

Just imagine: One day, our schoolchildren's history books will note that "Abraham Lincoln identified as a heterosexual White man."

Nothing like casting all of your fellow community members as “bigots” to show the love.

The Homosexual culture is one requiring constant mitigation of inherent health hazards. Now, the latest campaign is for "healthy" homosexuals to be on medication to fight the results of their deleterious behavior.
