With the return of John Dean to the witnesss chair in a congressional hearing room yesterday, false analogies between that incident and the current day Russia Hoax are everywhere in the mainstream media. But the one real lesson of that era is still valid today: Dont trust the governments Administrative State bureaucracy -- and in particular prosecutors, who are, too often, henchmen using their power and resources unethically, carelessly and ruthlessly. Too often they do not deliver justice; they hunt and destroy and cheat when necessary

American democrats don’t live “inside the beltway” lives. Most think John Dean has something to do with sausage breakfast sandwich commercials. But I suppose in their minds that guy is a good Trump critic too......
I remember people coming up to me and asking me to sign a petition to have President Nixon impeached.
I asked them what he had done to be impeached.
Nothing. Silence. Puzzled looks.
Herd mentality.
The general public doesn't pay close attention to this stuff and most don't care.
The only people who do are older, hardcore folks, like FReepers and political critters.
I cut my teeth on politics that summer. Addicted ever since. For that I have the Nixon hating democrats to thank.
It was one of the first televised and openly debated proceedings that the public could watch in real time... I remember that.
Then and there, so many people in American politics demonstrated how incompetent and malicious losers could have a hand in our government.
For me at least, it was an eye opener and the distrust I felt for them was equaled by the distrust I felt for the media.
It’s when I felt that I was only permitted the illusion of ‘self government’. Because elected officials went to DC and turned into people we hardly knew.
Arrogance, lies, posturing, manipulative pandering, self aggrandizement, pettiness, etc. all across the board.
But nothing happens to them. Look at the two that framed Stevens.
Obama weaponized alphabest agencies to harass and intimidate political rivals.
The Left is covering for their crooked commander in chief. If there are any comparisons to be drawn over Watergate it’s Obama’s despotic abuse of power.
or Hillary’s erased 80,000 emails
Here’s the lesson of Watergate: a mid-level functionary intent upon covering up his own boinking of a prostitute can tear apart a nation, bring down a President who 2 years earlier had won the greatest landslide in history, so paralyze that President’s successor and party that this country couldn’t live up to its treaty obligations...leading to the enslavement of a nation (South Vietnam) unable to protect itself for lack of weapons and ammunition, and leading to the genocidal murder of 2 million people in a far away land (Cambodia). Yes, such is the power of a mid-level functionary when aided and abetted by an entire political party and the media.
Read about John Dean, the prostitute that he was boinking (and whom he later married, so that she couldn’t testify against him!), and the cover-up that HE engineered: https://crankynotions.com/2012/08/22/forty-years-on-and-watergate-still-doesnt-make-sense/
John Dean also gave the idea for the Watergate break-in, if that boook “Silent Coup” is to be believed. Pres. Nixon knew practically nothing about the break in, but he did want to protect his staff.
Yeah, that is that book, “Silent Coup,” that I read years ago. The little weasel Dean got away with his botched break in at Watergate. He also kept Pres. Nixon in the dark about it and the most brilliant President since Jefferson resigned.
“Pres. Nixon knew practically nothing about the break in, but he did want to protect his staff.”
Even Democrat arch-partisan Chris Matthews readily acknowledges that Nixon didn’t know anything about the Watergate break-in until after it had occurred. Matthews says Nixon’s only Watergate fault was trying to conceal it after he learned of it.
Nixon thought he was protecting AG John Mitchell. Mitchell thought he was protecting Nixon.
“Silent Coup” is convincing enough that it converted G Gordon Liddy. Liddy, who had gone to jail thinking he was being loyal to Nixon, now thinks that Dean was behind it all.
“Silent Coup” authors Colodny and Gettlin were not Nixon partisans. They claimed to be political liberals. Their goal was to write a “harmony of the gospels”, to make sense out of all the first person accounts written by Watergate participants.
When they began researching the book Dean was actually their adviser. But the more that they worked on their material the more everything seemed to come back to John Dean. When they asked him to clarify some points he turned on them, and that’s when they first began to suspect that he was the mastermind behind Watergate.
They wanted Reagan impeached.
They wanted Bush impeached.
They want Trump impeached.
The issue is never the issue. They don't want Republicans seated as president and they've been orchestrating their militant and criminal opposition for 60 years. The peaceful transition of power is long over.
atc23,
I thought there was old info floating around about Mo.
The only thing i could find was by History Commons; http://www.historycommons.org/entity.jsp?entity=maureen_dean_1
A book called Silent Coup is discussed at length and the accusations of a prostitution ring. Don’t know one way or another , unless you know better info.. Thanks for posting this .
