Maher warns Dems not to make gun control a 2020 issue: 'Liberals should learn more about guns'
Fox News ^ | 6/8/19 | Joseph A. Wolfsohn

"Real Time" host Bill Maher cautioned Democrats not to make gun control a prominent issue in the 2020 election, urging them not to "die on this hill" if it means losing to President Trump. During his panel discussion Friday night, Maher listed several issues on which Democrats' stands poll better than Republicans,' such as the environment, education and health care.

He noted that Republicans hold a narrow lead over Democrats on gun policy. Maher then mentioned President Trump's recent sit-down with British TV personality Pierce Morgan, where the president mentioned that some people own guns for recreational use. GUN CONTROL RETURNS TO PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN TRAIL AS 2020 DEMS PUSH SWEEPING PLANS "I don't like guns. Have some, don't like them, have it for [an] emergency, like an antibiotic," Maher told the panel, "but some people do. Lots of people do and their view is, 'Yes there is a violence problem with guns, but not me. And you're going after me.'" Maher added he had doubts whether solutions proposed by Democrats "would solve the gun problem," and that "to die on this hill and lose an election" was a real possibility because "we've lost elections before on this issue, which is not a winning issue for Democrats."

"What is the option though, not to make it a central part of the campaign?," New York Times columnist Charles Blow asked. "No," Maher responded. "First of all, liberals should learn more about guns. I don't know much about guns because, again, I don't care, I don't like them, but I hear this from gun people."

The HBO star then mentioned a CNN interview in which 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker, D-NJ, was pressed how his gun control plan would have prevented the recent mass shooting in Virginia Beach. "Cory Booker took a very long time to be able to answer that question,"

Poor BILL Mahernseems conflicted. He hates guns but admits to owning a virtual arsenal. Is he more conservative than he seems, just afraid to "come out of the closet"? Or is it part of his pseudo intellectual schtick? More gibberish from the king of late night pompous asses

I don’t HATE guns. Don’t even dislike them.

ENJOY using them from time to time.

But can I say I LIKE them? Not in the way I like guitar or roulette tables or women :)

Guns are GOOD TO HAVE!!

And I support the 2nd amendment 1000 percent. (Is 1000 percent possible?)

The reference to an “antibiotic” isn’t the most insane one he’s ever made.

It will KILL a dangerous intruder, just like an antibiotic does.

I HATE this guy, but his position here isn’t utter insanity.

And that’s a step up from the norm.

“Is he more conservative than he seems”

F NO. It may simply mean this insane leftard HAS or OWNS guns. Calling Maher a conservative is like calling a pile of turd, a chocolate donut.

When they tout gun control, they lose every time.

Cory Booker took a very long time to be able to answer that question ((on how his dingbat plan would have stopped a shooting--which it wouldn't))

A TV item showed how a new brain analysis system could convert brain activity areas into colors. Deepak Chopra was attached to it with sensors all over his head and told to go into meditation, answer questions and so on. It could show "recalling events from the past" and "creating new ideas or fictionalized stories" or something.

Thus, Booker's nearly empty head would show "makin' up lies for the fools to believe so I can grab their guns."

“Trump is literally Hitler! I demand that only his military and police have guns.”

Liberal logic.

As usual, leftists have the wrong solution to the problem they envision... in a hypocritical way.

In this case, they have tantrums that Trump is a dictator, he is utter tyranny, perhaps he won’t even step down after losing in 2020. Yet, at the same breath, leftists want more gun control.

If Trump and conservatives were that dangerous to leftists, then leftists should want to keep and/or have weapons with which to protect themselves, and the progressive country of their dreams.

He’s obviously making sense on the issue. The proper strategy for the Dems, of course, is to first secure power [promising whatever it takes to win], and only then take away the guns.

Thankfully most elected Democrats are too impulsive to follow that plan, even though they know it’s right.

I like guns.
I like them so much I got a part time job selling them after I retired.
The engineering and precision some are made with are wonders of human achievement.

Maher responded. "First of all, liberals should learn more about guns. I don't know much about guns because, again, I don't care, I don't like them, but I hear this from gun people."

Well this is a genuine rarity, I actually agree with something this guy said. He is right - in general people who identify as leftist/liberals don't know much if anything about firearms. In fact, many of them actually "know" far too much about firearms that simply isn't true. (paging President Reagan)... About the only thing liberals tend to get right about firearms is that they know they want their private security well equipped so as to keep their more-equal backsides safe.

If you're a liberal lurker reading this and you're not as self aware as Mr. Maher - that is you think you actually know something about firearms - I strongly urge you to reconsider. It is entirely probable that most if not everything you think you know about firearms you've "learned" from other leftist/liberal sources, and it is almost certainly wrong.

Just one more hill to die on, for the Democrats. But they are trying to “prove” their bona fide intentions, and they cannot stop themselves from snapping at the bait (or debate, as the case may be).

Bill Maher might just as well be preaching to the wind, if he expects to talk reason to the Democrats on issues for which they have only emotions.

Which is just about every issue out there.

Yes, 1000% is very possible. George McGovern backed his selection for VP Thomas Eagleton 1000%

I think that’s GREAT.

I have that feeling about drums :)

Except your love would save us if the govt turned against us.

I mean unless we had enough snare drums to throw at the enemy :)

I admire your appreciation of the craftsmanship and technical achievement poured into gun making.

Maher’s contract with HBO requires that he be protected by armed bodyguards wherever he goes. He is not only hypocritical but a bit paranoid.

Idiot Democrats. They’ve wandered far from their old union/labor base and have become the party of Leftist/homosexual/baby-killer/treasonous/anti self defense loons. They can’t help themselves now. They’ll keep going on gun confiscation (while pretending that all they want is “gun safety”) and they’ll lose.

Great! We’ll keep our President and our guns.

They should all self-deport to Venezuela of Hanoi and live with like-minded people.

Heard of the first, will have to look up the 2nd :)

THIS is how people agree.

NO, I don’t have the love and fervor for guns that many southerners and Heartland folks have.

So what? I KNOW how important they are and I KNOW I have to have some basic experience in using them and I need to own one.

AND I KNOW any restrictions lead to MANY restrictions.

It’s not like others are saying “YOU MUST LOVE GUNS AS MUCH AS WE DO OR YOU SHOULD BE IN PRISON OR DEAD!!”

Well, most aren’t :)

I’ve met gun owners on here who LOVE LOVE LOVE Guns, all kinds, and are REALLY REALLY good at using them.

And I’e gotten lots of advice and some have hoped that I would develop the same love.

I HAVE enjoyed learning a lot more about them.

But at no time did someone say “if you don’t love them then you are the enemy!!”

As long as I don’t try in any way, even in my voting, to abridge any rights, it’s all good.

See abortion/gay marriage/transgender activism for the EXACT OPPOSITE approach.

BTW, the gun lovers’ approach makes you MUCH MORE receptive to them than these other freaks.
