university Big crooked business at the expense of stupid students with no knowledge of finances offered garbage courses that will not benefit them in the real world of earning a living. The victims will be represented by the feckless politician offering relief for a vote

Just stop giving out any more government-provided student loans — and focus on recovering that which has already been paid out.

Our young people will become better people by actually having to work for their studies and being wiser consumers on the education they purchase, and we will start to trim down the massive, Marxist, hate-America propaganda system that our tax dollars has funded.

...taxpayers stand to lose $31.5 billion on the program over the next decade,

Yeah, but the salaries and benefits of those administering the programs will continue to increase unabated.

The government needs to get out of the student loan business. Fat chance of that happening.

Only 4% of the Obama’s “Dreamers” graduate from college, after receiving millions in student aid. Our tax dollars flushed down that toilet.

Like everything government touches, you end up with an economically distorted system that benefits a few politically connected individuals (I’m looking at you Sen. Pocahontas) and economically enslaves the majority.

Once in place, it is impossible to dislodge due to political pull. These systems remain in place until they roll off the edge of the economic cliff. Student loan debt has reached that cliff.

I don’t know how to fix the current problem but I know how to fix it in the future. Set a national ceiling on tuition, say at $6,000 per student per year. Any and all tuition and fees an institution charges above the set ceiling has to be funded by the institution. The key here is these loans must be fully dischargeable in bankruptcy court. Then the schools are on the hook for the ridiculous tuition that student pay now-a-days.

Why is it a “crisis?” The left only calls things a crisis when it sees a chance to impose new laws that take away our rights or money.

The WSJ is not worth getting.

We will need to take a write down on existing debt. It’s not good for anybody to have millions and millions of Americans in debt servitude such that they can’t buy houses or have kids - and yes this absolutely plays into both.

Going forward, student loans need to be limited to productive majors like STEM. If you want to major in gender studies, you pay for it - no taxpayer funded loans.

We also need to force universities to slash administrators. They’ve added armies of them in the last 40 years. They’re not needed.

“After years of projecting big profits from student lending, the federal government now acknowledges that taxpayers stand to lose $31.5 billion on the program over the next decade,”

Almost without exception Government ***** up every single thing it touches. And it ***** it up very, very badly.

Meanwhile, four in 10 recent college graduates are in jobs that don’t require a degree,

A lot of those jobs that require degrees require them because businesses can't give aptitude tests any more, so the college degree is the substitute. If businesses could give aptitude tests, they might not require a college degree for a lot of positions.
