To get to the 52 mpg CAFE standard requires larding cars up with lots more high-profit things, like shutters on your front grille, lots of aluminum, etc. The car companies have been furiously investing in all that junk for a decade and their investment stands to be wiped out if Trump succeeds in rolling back CAFE.
I suspect that the profit margins on all that super duper equipment needed to reach 52 mpg are much higher than the companies earned on an old conventional car designs.
What they should really be squealing about is “Why did you damed bureaucrats make us invest tens of billions to reach 52 mpg?”
Excellent points.
More government regs and with all of the subsidies to buy certain favored cars under the Obama admnistration, guess who eventually footed the bill for the subsides on those cars?
The taxpayers.
My mind usually looks at: Are there subsidies involved (on whatever products), what autos (or anything else) are involved, and who ultimately will foot the bill for those subsidies.
I didn’t think about the points you brought up and I am glad that you did.
Thanks for the information!
Thanks.
So they pumped a lot of money into this crap and now they are afraid they won’t see a return?
What they are whining about is they can’t make a profit IF California and a few liberal puke states have their own standards for cars allowed to be sold.
The car makers rightly know that radically rules will force them to make two different cars depending on the state that they are sold in.
News flash! Cars and trucks would cost 30-40% less if rabid barking moonbats weren’t designing them in fantasy land Calif.org.
