Mitt Romney is congressional Republicans’ secret weapon on trade
The Washington Post ^ | June 6, 2019 | Henry Olsen

Republicans in Congress are confused about how to respond to President Trump’s multi-front trade war. With strong free-trade ideals but also cognizance of political and geopolitical concerns about Chinese competition, they stand paralyzed and inert. Mitt Romney can help them break out of their slumber.

Romney, now a senator from Utah, is uniquely positioned to lead his Republican colleagues on trade policy. He is unquestionably a leader of the party’s business and establishment wings. Those elements are strongly opposed to trade restriction, and deeply uneasy about Trump’s tariff wars, and they want nothing more than a quick end to all the conflicts. In principle, Romney shares nearly all of their concerns.

But Romney also was one of the first Republicans to see that China is different. His 2012 presidential campaign should have made more of that insight, but he nonetheless called for tariffs against China during that effort. Trump’s tariff war with China is an aggressive implementation of their shared vision.

Mitt’s brand of losing with dignity is dead. He is the most out of touch politician in DC. We will never go back to losers like him and their faux brand if conservatism.

The Washington Post has written an article that is so inaccurate and so worshipful of Romney that it is laughable.

The WAPO says Romney “is uniquely positioned to lead his Republican colleagues on trade policy.” This is so ridiculous that it would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad.

Romney has been wrong about everything regarding China and has frequently changed his position.

The WAPO says, “Someone with Romney’s unquestioned personal decency and patriotism could also credibly make the case for sacrifice.”

What reputation is that? Romney has been known for being two faced and dishonest. His word means nothing. His closest friends and strongest supporters have said that Romney’s word is like something written on an Etch-O-Sketch.

It can be easily erased. It only means whatever Romney wants it to mean at any one point in time.

WAPO then says “Mitt Romney, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.” It makes a patriotic American laugh, or cry or throw up.

The Trump hating, America hating leftist media are trying desperately to puff up Mitt Romney. The same Mitt Romney that the same media accused of causing people to die of cancer a few short years ago.

LOL, now they love Romney, after practically calling him a “Nazi” in 2012.

Could the Republican Majority Leader simply refuse to seat him on any committee?

If that happened, we could place bets on how many minutes after that Romney would change his party to Democratic?

LOL!!!

When both left, right and the MSM all agree on something then you know it is bad. Tariffs must be really good.

Is this the same Romney whom we were told let a steel worker's wife die from cancer?
