Jerods has a very strong anti-gun policy. Will ever set foot in either of those chains. Thats ok, the wife does not like jewelry anyway. She would rather receive a new gun or gun related accessory as a gift!!
I live 15 miles west of Statesville. Iredell county is part of the metro Charlotte area now and is growing very rapidly. There are many transplants. Not all them are liberals but there are a large number of them. I had a New York transplant assure me he was a Republican when I talked to him the first time. It was kinda funny. He was nice and was worried about me thinking he was liberal. He grew up north of New York City. I was surprised. But to tell you the truth, a lot of North Carolinians who were born and raised here are liberals too. There is nowhere that is solid 100% one way or the other. Upstate New York is heavily Republican, but New York City sways the state. I judge people individually, but I cannot be friends with radical leftists. It’s impossible for me to do so.
Incidentally, Statesville recently made headlines for another bad reason. The RV dealership Camping World was flying an American flag deemed too large and was fined for it. The city of Statesville is in the process of amending the regulation to allow American flags of any size to fly.

Hmmmm. The jewelry store my family patronized for 3-generations? The owner & 1 other senior jeweler always displayer a .38 revolver on their hips. Times have changed.
I would LOVE to see a photo and personal profile posted for the manager.
Excellent!
This is a nothing burger. The full article reveals that Kay Jeweler apologized and is attempting to reach out to the deputy and also says they support law enforcement. It might just be a manager who misinterpreted store policy. Who would WANT firearms in a jewelry store? If the store apologizes and wants to make good as they seem to, that’s enough for me. No one needs to get fired.
That guy could just go there without the uniform.
I hope he asked for his money back instead of the ring.
Stupid store doesn’t deserve paying customers!
Fixed it.
Its an attack on law enforcement in general, Sheriff Darren Campbell said.
Does the sheriff have a problem when other citizens are told they cannot come in armed?
Just doing my job...
+1
The deputy wasn't there in an official capacity. He was attempting to conduct private business. I'm not sure what the law is in NC, but here in Texas, if you are a carry permit holder, and the sign puts up a '30.07' sign, then you can't legally enter the establishment carrying openly. Just because he's a deputy doesn't mean he's immune to the law when he's not acting in an official capacity. At least, that's the way I think it ought to be.
What needs to be done is that the business should change it's policy to be more firearm friendly. i.e., anyone who is carrying legally should be welcomed. This is what needs to be done. Not some policy to give special privileges to someone just because he/she is in law enforcement.
Sadly, I do not think that's what will happen.
ba-da-bing!
IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A store manager accused of turning away an Iredell County deputy over his service weapon is "no longer with the company, Kay Jewelers said Thursday, a day after being made aware of the incident.
A uniformed deputy used his lunch break to pick up an engagement ring at Kays on Turnersburg Highway in Statesville Tuesday. The deputy had already paid for the ring and was informed by jewelers that the ring was sized and ready for pick up.
The deputy says when he got to the store, he was told he wasnt allowed to wear his service weapon on their premises.
Its not just an attack on this individual officer. Its not just an attack on this agency. Its an attack on law enforcement in general, Sheriff Darren Campbell said.
The sheriff says the deputy spoke with the manager, telling them he was in uniform and his marked patrol car was in the parking lot. He said it would be a violation of policy to remove his service weapon while in uniform.
This policy is in place for not only the safety of the deputy, but the general public as well, the sheriffs office said, backing the deputys claims.
According to the deputy, the manager told him he would need to return to the store when he was not armed.
The reaction our deputy encountered is very difficult for us to comprehend, and we earnestly hope situations such as these are few and are diminishing, the sheriffs office posted on Facebook.
Kay Jewelers initially responded on Facebook, saying they sincerely apologize for the mishandling of this matter."
Thursday, Kays issued the following statement:
"After learning of an incident involving a law enforcement officer in Iredell County, North Carolina, Kay Jewelers reached out immediately to the customer and the Iredell County Sheriffs Office, and we sincerely apologized for the mishandling of this matter. Our policy is that any member of law enforcement is always welcomed in our store at any time, as a customer or in an official capacity. We have tremendous respect for and closely work with law enforcement at all levels, and we thank the Office for bringing this to our attention. We are reinforcing store training regarding all of our Customer First policies, as well as specific policies related to law enforcement, in all of our stores. The store manager is no longer employed by the company.
- Kay Jewelers"
Deputies said they were deeply saddened about the situation.
Thank you to the citizens and businesses in our area who whole heartily support the men and women who wear the badge, the sheriffs office posted.
I’m tempted to go to Kay, waste about an hour of their time showing me everything in the store, and then tell them while leaving that I was carrying a concealed firearm the whole time.

Cops work unusual hours. Sometimes the only time to do errands like this is during on duty hours, or just before or after. Many’s a time I did errands just before or after work.

It’s a shame to see the liberal infection of Charlotte spreading north to Statesville.
No, but I post with a lot of them here on FR--
Kay Jewellers calling the police: “we are being robbed! Get over here quick!
Police: “I am sorry as we will not send over police officers without their weapons to a ongoing robbery. Have a a nice day”
