Reagan happily used tariffs. That’s why Harley Davidson still exists. Reagan put a 45% tariff on bikes over 700cc.

Ronald Reagan was never in favor of what George Will and the Washington establishment call “free trade”.
What we had was not free trade. It was a series of terrible trade deals that encouraged countries like Communist China to steal intellectual property, flood our markets, bankrupt American companies and throw Americans out of work.
Reagan imposed strong tariffs on countries that tried to take advantage of America. He fought to promote fair trade. Reagan’s position on trade was similar to President Trump not George Will.
What is called “free trade” by the media and the Washington elites is not free trade but rather a way to destroy the American economy.
The GOP for the most part does not like Trump.
