When criticizing socialism, don’t bring up the Soviet Union or Venezuela to Bernie Sanders.
Sanders, I-Vt., dismissed the connection between the failed socialist states and his own vision for America, during an interview on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” Tuesday.
“Obviously, Soviet Union was an authoritarian society with no democratic rights, and I think if you know history, you know the democratic socialists fought and stood up against that,” the 2020 Democratic hopeful said.
“You can look at what existed in the Soviet Union or Venezuela, that is not what I’m talking about at all.”

Well then...... how bout California?
That must be why he went to the Soviet Union for his honeymoon.
Both the Soviet Union and Venezuela had Elections.
Same goes for Cuba.
Or Seattle. Or Detroit. Or Chicago. Or Minneapolis. Or Baltimore or..,
Notice they can only tell you what nations not to look at as a model, vs what nations TO look at as a model?

Sanders, like all Leftists, relies on the ignorance of so many ignorant people. They have no ability to discern or think critically.
Bernie is using the Alternative Truth logical fallacy.
IOW, it is like Bernie saying “What really happened is that the wrong people tried it!”

Democratic Socialism: the people vote for the government to take away other people’s money.
Communism: voting unnecessary.
The first inevitably leads to the second, when they run out of other people’s money.

The soviets and Venezuelans selling socialism didn’t talk about it either. In some circles that’s known as “marketing”.
So, if the right people try socialism, how do you continue to find the right people after the original right people die out?
The right people are apparently a very rare subset of the human race since none of them have yet tried socialism.
He tries to say authoritarian/ totalitarian socialism is different then what he wants to force on America. I’m not even going to comment.
While California is not yet an entirely failed state, it is well on the way, and only stays afloat now because of the rapacious taxation upon the now fleeing middle class. California has not yet run out of other people’s money, but it is coming, big time.
California could be virtually self-sufficient in electrical power generation, and in petroleum extraction and refining, but they rely upon their neighbors and the rest of the US as a whole, while they “protect” the environment, and to what end? For the foreign invaders? To appease some intellectual need to “prove” they are some kind of evolved humanity?
Those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.
And not just in high school.
Ultimately, all socialism is authoritarian.
In Communism, they force you to do what they want you to do.
