What people who have lived under socialism, good and hard, will tell you about it

Look at socialized medicine. Sally C. Pipes, who's the president and CEO of the Pacific Research Institute and from Vancouver, Canada, has expressed her dismay with Canada’s socialized health care system. Sadly, her mother perished while waiting for proper treatment, because of all the long lines for treatment. It was almost as if the system wanted to get rid of her elderly mother. Remember Sarah Palin’s warning about Obamacare death panels?

I have worked in Canada and Australia. Their medical systems are similar. Here is how they work: A patient needs to go to a general practitioner first for whatever ails him or her, then must get a referral to a specialist, regardless of circumstance. I had a broken ankle in Chile and transferred to Australia to run a project. But once in Australia, the trip to the GP was the mandatory first stop to get a referral to see an orthopedist. My foot was in a soft boot with a broken ankle and the orthopedist turned me away because I had to get the referral from a GP or else no treatment. On another bout of life in Australia, I had cataracts in my right eye. I knew the issue since I had them in the other eye six years earlier in Spain. Still had to get the referral or else no treatment for me.

Lucky for us that barney and 'sandy Oh' have learned the lesson and know how to do it the RIGHT way. Yup, 3 house barney and garbage disposal lexie. Barney was in Reno the other day and attracted about 1,000 fidiots to hear him babble and spit and sputter along. I don't believe there were any reports of how many "refugee/immigrants " he would be putting up in one of the three houses. That's odd.

The ones I know all remark how poor they were since they were totally dependent on the government.

Zeke Emanuel (Rahm’s brother and one of Obama’s advisers) was quite clear about that. He felt that anyone over age 75 should be denied medical care.

That would have been the future of our country had Hillary been elected. It still might happen. Republicans won’t have the White House forever.

I have an attitude toward Venezuela that I’m half ashamed of: let it be, because it serves as a living rebuke and negative example, and in its absence people claiming any idiot utopian result from socialism get to spin whatever fantasy tales they want. At the close of the Cold War it was impossible to spin these fantasies in the presence of people who had lived through the reality. That’s starting to fade a little with time. Forty years now since the Iron Curtain was raised. The number of fools who want to lower it again is simply staggering.

Sure seems like it these days. Everybody seems more concerned about CYA than doing what needs done.

Sorry, the system is not the same in Australia as that of Canada. They are quite different.

Besides the universal medical care for all in the government system in Australia, which is similar to Canada, you can choose to have private insurance and go to private hospitals. For a relatively low cost of insurance ($4000/year for family of four and $2000/year for a single person) compared to the USA, you can get the private health insurance. Canada does not have this type of private insurance. If you go to private hospitals in Australia, you do not have a waiting time, as you do in Canada. And almost all of the cost is covered in the hospitals by the private health insurance.

All Australians can pick their own GP’s, make appointments, and get the GP visit for no cost. It is true one needs to see a GP for a reference for specialists, but you can tell the GP who you want to see or ask your GP for their recommendations. Once you see the specialist, you do not need to go back to the GP for repeat visits to the specialist. Typically, if you have a problem, like a foot injury, the GP’s will send you for X-rays, MRI, etc., without having to make a referral.
Also, you do not need a referral from a GP for cataracts, these are mostly done by opticians.

Yes, I understand. I think the author of the article was only a worker who was here for a short time and didn’t understand the Aussie system and he wouldn’t have been on the our system. You have to have at least permanent visa to be on the Aussie system. He was probably on the company’s system that he worked for. As in the USA, if anyone here, even visitors, goes to the emergency room of a public hospital, they will treat the person, normally at no cost at all. If they go to a private hospital they will be charged.

It was almost as if the system wanted to get rid of her elderly mother.

Under Socialism, where everything is either owned or controlled by the state, the individual becomes subservient to and insignificant within society as a whole. A person is no different than a tool. If the tool becomes dull, you throw it away and put another in its place for the betterment of society.

No one should be surprised that the elderly are targeted for removal, regardless of their history of contribution.

Ask Boxer the horse in "Animal Farm" how it works.
