Oregon, Awash in Marijuana, Takes Steps to Curb Production
AP News ^ | May 31, 2019 | Andrew Selsky

Oregon is awash in pot, glutted with so much legal weed, that if growing it were to stop today, it would take more than six years by one estimate to smoke or eat it all. Now the state is planning to curb production. Five years after Oregon legalized recreational marijuana, lawmakers have given the Oregon Liquor Control Commission more leeway to deny new pot-growing licenses, based on supply and demand.

Interestingly, as many producers are facing bankruptcy, there is no federal relief, due to the fact that marijuana is still federally prohibited.

Why would anyone buy it when they can just grow their own.

Well, unless, like eggs, it’s cheaper to buy it than produce it yourself.

The good news is that the import of illegal marijuana should come to a standstill once it’s legal in every state.

Oregon had a serious drug problem before they legalized it.
“Drug Store Cowboy” from 1989 was filmed in Portland.

When pot was legalized, statewide arrests for unlicensed pot production went up. Cutting back on permits will reduce the state’s cut of the drug dealing. Since illegal production has already increased compared with prior to legalization, will not decrease when the state reduces licensing, and will still require $$ to combat/arrest/jail - the state is losing more money than just “permit” fees.

Maybe the government schools should start forcing kindergarten children to smoke it during transgender sodomy classes.

An ex-GF of mine opened a dispensary in Seattle. Initial business was excellent. As the novelty wore off she says it’s been slow sales and she’s looking for an exit.

That spike of initial curiosity now barely breaks even.

Heck, I was thinking of people just having a plant in their house or in the garden, kinda like my wife and I do with Basil and tomatoes. It’s just a plant that is easily grown.

Everyone thought they were going to get rich growing a weed.

Now they all want to switch to hemp for fiber and oil production for which there is also not a well developed market. Lots of dopeheads learning the hard way that farming is not easy.

Especially in a tax-mad progressive controlled state.

There were warnings put out by Oregon a few years ago not to venture too far off their state park trails or you might get killed by cartel marijuana growers who’d set up farms within their state parks. Now there’s some surrender monkeys.
