Legislation to enable the staging of a second referendum on independence has been published by the Scottish government, as Nicola Sturgeon said another vote before 2021 would give Scotland the opportunity to choose to be an independent European nation rather than have a Brexit future imposed upon us.
The framework bill, published on Wednesday morning, comes after the Scottish National party secured a record three MEPS and its highest-ever European parliament vote at 38%, boosted by Sturgeons clear pro-remain campaigning, in which the first minister urged voters to support her party whether or not they were pro-independence, to send a convincing message about Scotlands opposition to Brexit.
The Referendums (Scotland) bill does not specify the date, question or referendum period, which would all be set by secondary legislation. Sturgeon has previously committed to securing the necessary transfer of powers from Westminster before holding a vote, something Theresa May has consistently stated she would refuse if requested.

Charge them 50B Pounds to leave if they want to join the EU.
What part of "independent" do they not understand?
When the Scots let the Pan Am bomber in for cancer treatment is when I denied my Scottish heritage. Not to mention all the other crap they have lowered themselves to. Thank God I’m American.
I belive you are still more independent as an EU member than as a subject of UK.
What the heck happened to the Scots?
Britain should just kick them out.
I don’t get these 2 bit “nations” wanting their sovereignty and then subjugate themselves again under a bigger and more dictatorial power.

Would London become an Islamic republic?
I can see the merits of kicking out the Scots. They’re a festering canker of progressivism wielding a disproportionate influence over the rest of the UK, and we would left the EU on a ‘no deal’ basis had it not been for Scotch remoaner MPs contributing to a loss by one vote for allowing such a thing. Plus it would get rid of a financial liability. Win win for England.
as I said.
They do understand independent. Being part of the British union was good for them, but now they see that they would want to go their own path.
It was very clear to the Scots when, during the advisory referendum they voted 62% to remain but their nation’s point of view was completely ignored by the Westminster government.
In contrast they saw how the 27 other states in the union of europe had to and stayed united behind tiny Ireland (tiny in terms of % of GDP contributed and population) so that Irish concerns were the concerns for the entire union.
Not to mention UK without Scotland is not really a country of any importance anymore.
Err.. but then why would anyone support the UK for "getting sovereignty"?
Scotland is arguably a distinct nation.
And being part of the EU would give them more freedom of movement and leverage than being part of a UK outside the EU
That is correct. Scotland voted 62% to remain, while England+Wales voted 53% to leave. If England+Wales gave the Scotss independence and cut ties with Northern Ireland, allowing them to unite with RoI, then England+Wales can easily get to 55% support for Leave.
It is not true that Scotland was ‘completely ignored’. If that was true, we would already have left under WTO rules. The fact that Scotland is holding us back from securing our independence demonstrates just how much they wield a disproportionate influence.
That's still in the top 10 global economies.
Scotlands GDP is $ 0.2 trillion, that's not too far off Ireland's GDP of $0.35 trillion.
England+Wales will slow down, but they would still be a middle power for the foreseen future imho
