'A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall' on Obama's Bad Cops and Spies
Real Clear Politics ^ | May 28,2019 | Charles Lipson

These are very serious charges, and, if proven, serious crimes. What makes them worse — far worse — is that they may well be connected to each other. If they are, they would represent a high-level conspiracy by government officials, appointed by one party and directed at political opponents during and after an election.

This assault on democracy has not been proven, but the evidence emerging in dribs and drabs strongly suggests the possibility. If it is proven, and if the Obama White House was directly involved, as some FBI texts plainly say, the scandal would be one of the biggest in American history.

How big? Big enough that major news organizations, which always favor transparency (“Democracy Dies in Darkness”), are now deeply troubled by the release of any secret documents. They know the stakes are too high and transparency too dangerous for their side, politically.

Right now, we don’t know how big the scandal is, how extensive the coordination was, and how far up it went. But we certainly need to know, just as we needed to know if Donald Trump won the presidency by cooperating with a hostile foreign power. He did not, according to the Mueller report. Now, we need to know if the U.S. government itself worked secretly and illegally to prevent his election and, when that failed, to damage his new presidency. That conspiracy would be equally serious, and for the same reasons. It needs to be rooted out, exposed, and punished.

Yup. Personally I believe some stand-down truce will be negotiated behind the scenes and this will all be allowed to quietly go away.

With the obligatory bromides about "in the future taking all measures to improve the process and ensure this never happens again, blah, blah, blah..."

Ditto. Apparently, somehow, Brennan’s security clearance isn’t even revoked.

The Uniparty quid pro quo is already done. Lindsay Graham would never be leading the charge on this if he thought his Democrat friends were going to jail. BTW, it’s nearly summer and where are those hearings he promised?

Hillary was suppose to win. It would have been swept under the rug.

Now Obama and Hillary are the top of the pyramid of this spygate that is much more serious than watergate. How ironic, Hillary was fired from the congressional watergate investigation for lying and will be headed to prison for Spygate.

That was a disappointment; I'd like to know how that breakdown occurred.

In my lifetime no high profile politician has faced justice. I don’t expect that to change.

We all know how far up it went - all the way to the turd. That being said, I'd be very surprised if any of the main characters suffer any serious repercussionsor for that matter if ANY of the guilty are punished. If any are, it will only be some low level functionary and then with a slap on the wrist like Strzok (getting fired for committing treason is kind of an inadequate punishment)

There will be a rash of early retirements and harrumphing. Then we all move on.

I, for one, am getting tired of these articles. They are nothing more than eye candy to keep the hopes alive for justice. And justice I am afraid will not come. The Swamp protects its own.

Is this guy serious? Evidence is emerging that water is wet and the earth may in fact be round. Folks, we know what happened and is continuing to this day.

There is a chance you are right and it is likely we will never know the whole story. However, the past few months have opened up much more of this scandal. On top of that, it appears to have been run by those at the top in a very amateurish and clumsy way. They left a paper-trail of their actions, emails, text messages, affidavits to the FISC, etc etc.

The main reason we do not know much more of the story is that they have kept everything “classified”.

They made a big mistake attacking Barr the way they did in my opinion.... not because Barr is a person who like all of us would react angrily to such a personal affront - they attacked the institution of the DOJ. A DOJ that has very few holdovers left in powerful positions.

They have made a big mistake post-Mueller in continuing to double down on the attacks against the President, his family, and his businesses. I think Trump wanted it to all “go away” so he could govern, but they will not let it go and now they have gone too far. Trump has no choice but to move forward an investigation because they will not quit and he has the much better case going into 2020.

The best thing that could happen politically for Trump would be for the house to file articles of impeachment and it may happen - they are stuck on stupid. This would allow Trump a platform to present all of this to the public in his defense and he has a great legal team.

You can only stand in someones face screaming for so long until punches are exchanged. I think even Trump is surprised at how stupid and stubborn they are - he cannot process how they continue to push such a ridiculous position.

We are at the punching stage now - Trump’s dismissal of Nancy and Chuck the other day was a big deal.

Yeah, I don't think law and order is going to be comming back in style anytime soon.. The only way it's going to happen is if we break out the pitchforks and get serious about it... :(
