Gun Rights Group Targets Trump’s ‘Anti-Gun’ ATF Pick

In a national email, the National Association for Gun Rights announced that the Trump administration just made an anti-gunner the next ATF Director.

Chuck Canterbury is the presumptive nominee at the ATF based on an announcement made on Friday.

According to the NAGR President Dudley Brown, Canterbury has a “long history of publicly supporting and endorsing anti-gun policies, anti-gun Supreme Court nominees, and anti-gun high ranking government officials.”

As President of the National Fraternal Order of Police, Canterbury has supported anti-gun Supreme Court Justices like Sonia Sotomayor and former Attorney General Eric Holder, who ran the notorious Fast and Furious gun running program.

On top of that, Canterbury supported the expansion of the federal government’s gun registration schemes.

Brown reported that Canterbury’s FOP is “currently lobbying AGAINST Constitutional Carry, even though the vast majority of law enforcement officers support the right to carry.”

In Brown’s view, this is “troubling news.”

Ultimately the no compromise leader called for an ATF Director “who wants to tear down gun control, not expand it.”

Brown then promised to keep NAGR members informed of everything that goes on during this process.

“In 2015, the Colorado State Legislature considered legislation that would bump the magazine limit enacted in 2013 from 15 rounds to 30 rounds. Brown opposed the legislation, arguing that 30 rounds per magazine isn’t enough.”

PDJT is the only President to fight the Deep State to protect us. If this is a bad pick, I suggest using the WH email or contact numbers, etc.

But make no mistake, he is the ONLY PRESIDENT, who has really cared about and seriously fought for us.

NRA-ILA From 2011

Political Report: One On One With Chuck Canterbury, National President, Fraternal Order Of Police

EXCERPT:

Chuck is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement, including serving as the firearm instructor for his department in Horry County, S.C. He chartered the Local Coastal Carolina FOP lodge in 1984 and rose through the FOP ranks to become national president in 2003. Canterbury`s son is following in his footsteps by serving with the Horry County Police Department. They also share a passion for waterfowl hunting in the Myrtle Beach area, where they both live.

I was pleased to catch up with Chuck when he visited Washington recently.

Cox: "Chuck, it`s great to visit with you. The NRA has been honored to work directly with you and the FOP on issues like the Tiahrt Amendment, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, microstamping and countless others. Our members very much appreciate your support."

Canterbury: "Chris, it`s not only a pleasure; it`s a duty for us at FOP to support policies that protect our nation`s law enforcement officers—but also protect the rights of law-abiding citizens."

Precisely. They are a union like any other. And with that, those that climb to the top are ones that most closely trumpet the union song and Democratic agenda. The Left has done a masterful job, over the last 30 years, of requiring that those that climb the ranks of major departments and agencies are as liberal as they can be. Creates a rather large disconnect from the folks solving crimes and answering calls to those that work on the top floors of headquarters.

But, then again, that’s the Democratic way, isn’t it.

They’ve been around a while. Started as a group of folks that wanted to protect the 2A, but wanted nothing to do with the NRA. The other is Gun Owners of America

Agree 100%. Can’t blame the President for a lot of this. He gets a name. They interview and say all the right things. Look at Wray, he’s turned into a despicable little sh*t. I think the biggest problem is the way all of these people circle the bowl until they can cling to the side and land a job. Meuller is the perfect example.

If I were lucky enough to be considered a trusted advisor to the President, for positions like this, I’d be looking outside federal law enforcement and for an old school police chief/commissioner(although not too many exist anymore). Either that a retired senior level military guy or a verified, Pro 2A businessman/woman. No reason that the head of an agency like ATF, or any other, has to come from a law enforcement background. They just have to be a good leader, make sound decisions, as the job is more administrative than anything else.

But, I think the biggest obstacle is getting them through the Senate. Those criminals want someone in those positions that they, or someone they know, has a relationship with. They want an insider. Otherwise they can’t get access to info when they want it.

NAGR’s home is CO. Young organiztion that I consider one of the big four. NAGR, JPFO, GOA, and NRA. Politically far more astute than NRA. They do not endorse Democrats. They are really on top of State Government efforts to pass pro-second amendment legislation or vice-versa.

Organized in 2000, they are in my opinion the best pro-second amendment political organization. Unlike the NRA that has been around for every egregious law passed limiting our rights that in theory “shall not be infringed”.

We have never made it a practice to disparage other gun rights organizations. That’s not constructive, nor does it further the cause of Second Amendment freedom. We are all supposed to be in this fight together.

However, we cannot ignore this calumny, especially from someone whose rhetoric has gun owners constantly fighting one another, rather than uniting against a common enemy.

One reason SAF is not what I call the big four. NAGR, JPFO, GOA, and NRA. They are doing exactly what they are accusing NAGR of, and I agree with the premise, that all should be working in concert proteccting our second amendment God given rights.

That has proven especially difficult since one of the big four finds it politically beneficial to support Democrats in public office. There is no Democrat in public office today that should not be considered an enemy to our right to keep and bear arms IMHO.

Always with hyperbole, always with fundraising.

Lots of complaints about NAGR buggering up the works.

I believe you would have to admit there isn’t much difference if you were to substitute NRA.

The real point being, they thrive on folks going after our guns. If Democrats were to give up the war on guns, most if not all of the pro gun groups would die on the vine.

You might want to become aware of the training, certification and public service activities of the NRA.

Just to cover the bases, I am a member of all four groups, or was at one time. Getting more difficult to remember all the renewal dates. Started in JR NRA in the mid fifties.
