This is the forest on the east side of Maui, right? I’m looking at it on the map and it looks slightly larger than 10 miles wide. I dont know, I just dont see how someone can get lost for 17 days in a 10 mile wide area. Surely she knows where the sun rises and sets so logically you head in one direction even if you have many detours you would be out of there in a day or two. SEVENTEEN days! I’m not buying this, this sounds like someone who organized this for attention.

It seems that she had the sun and the creeks. If she follows a creek eventually it will cross a road or open onto a beach or river. Water is always going to take the quickest path downhill.

I am glad she is safe, and I guess some of the odd things about it can be attributed to her breaking her leg.

But:

Maui is not a big island. All you have to do is walk downhill and you can make it to a road, the beach, anything where you can get into contact with help. And it is a small enough island that it is hard to believe that she can go multiple days without contacting anyone, even accidentally.
