The left destroys everything it touches -- or at least everything it gets control of. This was not necessarily true when leftists called themselves “liberals.” But now that traditional liberalism is passe, its place taken by “progressivism,” it is a foregone conclusion.
I was reminded of this yet again when reading an article in The Nation titled “Want to Dismantle Capitalism? Abolish the Family.” It was an interview with Sophie A. Lewis, author of the book “Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family.”
What a grand repository of idiocy this is. Lewis calls herself a “repro-utopian.” Pregnancy, childbirth and mothering are unpaid work, Lewis insists, which should be done by paid surrogates, rather than genetic mothers. She favors “sodomitical maternity” (which she translates as “structurally queer”). Children should not “belong” to anyone -- that only perpetuates the notion of property, a fixture of the capitalist system she seeks to undo. One who bears a child is not a “mother” but a “gestator.” Parenting should be “collective.” The relationship between parent and child should be “comradely.”
Capitalism, which Lewis and plenty of her progressive fellow travelers despise, has alleviated the extreme poverty of over 700 million people just in the past 20 years. It is estimated that in the past 40 years, the number of those living in extreme poverty (less than $2 a day) has halved. Noted economist and author Deirdre McCloskey has written extensively that when combined with (18th-century) liberal ideals of political freedom, equality and individual liberty, entrepreneurial capitalism has transformed the standard of living on the planet in ways unprecedented in human history. And contrary to the popular progressive narrative, it is the poorest on the planet who have benefited most.

Progressive policies have all but destroyed mainline Protestant churches. Membership has plummeted, thanks in large part to the abandonment of core theological principles (like salvation from Jesus Christ and biblical inerrancy) in any effort to appear more “relevant.” A prime example was the 2009 appointment of abortion activist Katherine Ragsdale as head of the Episcopal Divinity School. (Ragsdale infamously gave a speech in which she proclaimed, as reported by World Magazine, “Abortion is a blessing, and our work is not done.”) And they are gunning, big time, for the Catholic Church, weakened as it is by the festering wounds of pedophilic and homosexual sex scandals.
Their educational policies (like wasting time on pornographic “sex education” instead of academic fundamentals) have damaged the public school system -- and then they seek to trap people in it by eliminating alternatives like charter schools, vouchers and scholarships. (Hint: If the schools are excellent, people will beat the doors down to get and keep their children there. But -- oh, no! -- that is a capitalist market principle.)
The progressive notion of no-fault divorce was supposed to be a win-win. It collapsed the marriage rate and cast millions of women and children into poverty.
Give them “room to destroy.”

This article is spot on and dovetails with something I wrote here a couple of weeks ago on a thread about homelessness:
“The dirty secret is that this is being done quite on purpose. The “Activists” pushing these laws will never admit it publicly but here’s the truth.
They hate civilized society. Those beautiful glass and steel buildings with all the trappings of civilization? They hate them. They want them destroyed. All those middle class folks who drag their asses out of bed at 5am so they can be at work by 8? They hate them, too.
If you’re one of them, blue collar, white collar, middle management, Senior VP, whatever, they hate you, too. They hate you with the white hot nuclear intensity of 10,000 burning suns. They hate the society that you help to build and they want it destroyed root and branch.
And while, for now at least, they can’t just start killing us they’ll make do with destroying the things that make civilized life possible. They’ll flood the productive parts of the cities with drug addled mentally ill people and then pass laws so you can’t do a damned thing about it. Not legally, anyway.
They’ll make the areas so inhospitable to us normals that we flee taking our money, work ethic, and businesses with us. Then the spiral will tighten further damaging the things that they hate until the target area is laid waste.
These “activists” want things fouled with human waste, the parks and common areas unusable by the people who paid for them, and the cops prevented by law from doing anything about it. Once the water is undrinkable, the soil and sidewalks are covered with human feces, and the air stinking of rot, their task will be complete. At least in that area anyway.
Then they’ll move on to the next target.
Face it. They hate you. They hate everything you believe in. They don’t want “compassion” for these people. They need them. They’re a weapon to be used against you.
Once you understand that everything becomes crystal clear.

They have advanced Cloward Piven to the point of no return. The US Government is FUBAR...”and that’s a GOOD thing”. Because at this moment the only thing that is protecting the libtards from the wrath they truly deserve is the very government they are busy trying to destroy. So just be patient, let them succeed and then we can make real progress. Who knows, after the smoke clears we can probably get Trump to stay on during the transition. We can probably re-use the same founding documents.
While I agree with most of the article, I disagree with the assertion that “no-fault divorce” is inherently bad or wrong.
Without no-fault—which AFAIK both parties have to agree to—a relatively amicable separation becomes very difficult, because both parties have to assert and defend wrong-doing. No one wins there except the lawyers.
The option of a divorce for cause still exists.
I suppose that it’s taboo to point out that what is being complained about, here, is the product of the thinking of women (in the majority) in the arena of politics (for which no government on Earth is structured).
We blindly hack at the US Constitution and state constitutions, undoing the work of dozens of thoughtful generations before, and then bitch and whine about the results.

The Left has already pushed it past the threshold. Even some oftheir so called”benighted” are realizing that to the Left they are no more than tools, pawns, and props. The backlash is now inevitable, and it won’t be pretty. I have no sympathy for any of the Left who are crushed in its path.
