LeanIn.org and SurveyMonkey’s new #MentorHer poll reveals Friday that 60% of male managers report feeling “too nervous” about being accused of harassment to interact with women in “common workplace” activities such as mentoring, socializing and one-on-one meetings.

Should have turned that back on HR to conduct a Root-Cause Analysis on why the building stairwells are poorly lit with employees feeling unsafe using them. Never let that absolute black hole of corporate value get the upper hand...

They can always apply the Pence rule if they’re afraid of unfounded accusations.

I’m a bad person. I got up from a nap and read this as, ‘Men are afraid to enter women.”

I may burn in hell forever, but I’ll go there chucking about why...

I saw it first on Drudge. So I posted it this morning.

But as often happens, others also see things on Drudge (or other places) and post again.

Even a disagreement on an engineering matter can turn into a sexual harassment case. One engineer I worked “with “ wanted to use the wrong technology on a project, specifically using a coriolis meter to measure saturated steam flow. I suggested something else, since a coriolis meter would not work. I even brought in people from the manufacturer (Emerson Process Management, one of the biggest suppliers), the explain. No she wanted to do it her way. My way worked, hers didn’t. And that was verified by the maintenance engineer. But politically I was wrong, I was the patriarchal oppressor, according to HR.

There is one female at my work who has left ZERO doubt that she is a future law suit. I informed by previous boss that I would, to the best of my abilities, NEVER be anywhere alone with her and told him why. He completely understood. I will stand outside the meeting room if she is alone in there.

I am 6-2 and go about 230. I don’t think anyone would say she is small, but she is maybe 5-5. All she would have to do is say I leaned aggressively and I am toast.

After a minor re-structure, she & I now have the same boss. I need to have that same conversation with him asap.

Just to be clear. She is the ONLY one like that at my work and she is 1 of many females. Most are absolutely fine to work with. Just.Not.That.One.

The Pence Rule is exactly what a meeting with any female is all about. Any other situation is potentially a career-ending choice.

Think about it ... in a one-on-one meeting:
1) if the woman doesn’t ‘feel’ that she was treated right, she goes to HR,
2) if the conversation doesn’t produce the result she expects, she goes to HR,
3) if a promotion is involved but it is not to the level she thinks she be operating, she goes to HR.

Always have one-on-one meetings in an open area. If that is impractical, make sure there is a third party present. Always, always record the meeting and then make several copies.

It is easy to understand the corporate manager’s uneasiness.

“Fortunately, the women I work with are by and large wonderful but I do walk on eggshells with them at first - then I’m a little more comfortable with them once I get to know them better.”

Not to insult you but were you a friend of mine and said this to me I would slap you upside the head multiple times for your naivety.

Because of loony feminism, many women will be lonely souls consoled only by their many cats as they become elderly. Oh, well...

I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the women that I work with, beyond the minimum required. If they want anything more, they’ll have to work out something with Feminist Leadership first - they won’t get jack from me without a public stand-down by their leadership - and that aint happening.

Men have been relegated to the role of pack animals (I mean donkeys and oxen, not wolves) and abused. Read Atlas Shrugged. Men are shrugging.

“I was wrong, I was the patriarchal oppressor, according to HR.”

Physics/good engineering practice = patriarchal oppression...filing that one away...

Crap like that is how airplanes screw themselves into the ground...

I’m no kid, trust me through out my long life I can say that hanging out with the guys was always more fun then being with the woman except for the obvious exception. Whether we were hanging on the corner, sitting in a gin mill, watching the game and having a case or two of brew, we had a great time laughing and telling jokes that would get us arrested today. We told Black, Italian, polish, Irish and even mother jokes.

We never said anything worse than shit around the girls (it was the 50’s). They were treated with deference and respect but they knew the guys were in charge except in certain special circumstances.

Girls were great and we all loved them but the best of times were had hanging with the guys.

Back in the day a guys fondest desire was after he got laid the girl would turn into a six-pack.

Article goes on to blame men. Again.

Young men generally no longer care what women think anymore and are checking out of the social rat race. Don’t blame them a bit.

Much like the gays and the Muslims being in a protected class gives you the protection you need to accuse and be believed.
