The purpose of the EU was to scr** everyone they could.
Going back to the 1930s, it’s hard to really know what Hitler was thinking as a realistic goal/worldview. One interpretation that I have heard was:
Germany controls Europe.
Britain controls a colonial empire (plenty of evidence says that Hitler did not see the UK as a natural enemy; many in the UK agreed. Churchill did not.
USA controls western hemisphere
Japan controls Asia
Balance is maintained between the 4 great powers and everyone is happy. Of course, it didn’t work out that way.
Merkel’s vision is different but I’m not sure it’s better.
Any reason why they should?
Germany hasn’t been an ally in decades.
Bet she won’t team up with Japan for this purpose this time.

Okay. There are something like 35,000 U.S. troops stationed in Germany. Remove every last one of them.
And yes, I know some bases there are important. But you shouldn’t be where you are not wanted. Let Merkel deal with the Russian bear on her own.

Withdraw from NATO . Bring the boys home. We can always sign defense treaties with individual countries that actually act like allies instead of freeloading leeches.

Germany creating new enemies. The world has spent the last 100 years or so putting Germany in its place. Time to do it again.
If Germany reverts to form and starts another world war it will not survive as a nation state after it is defeated. The world will have had enough and its territory will be partitioned and given to neighboring countries. The third time will be the charm.
The fact that Germany and the US are allies is more abnormal than normal if you view it in a historical context. How long we stay allies is open to question as Germany continues to commit national suicide.
