Oaths were taken well before the Declaration of Independence and Constitution within the colonies. So help me God has never been mandatory.

“So help me God has never been mandatory.”

But it has always been customary. I think here the Democrats intend to banish it as a relic of our nation’s Judeo-Christian history that they so deeply despise.

In a way the Democrats are right (but for the wrong reason). Might as well take the phrase out when it is treated as meaningless by the politicians that “solemnly” swear. They obviously have no fear of God, so it is pointless for them to invoke Him.

Next we’ll get rid of “In God We Trust”.

Eventually, we’ll get to “Allah be praised!”

Then they’ll be satisfied.

yup

Perhaps they’d be more comfortable with something like this: “So help me gender fluid, polymorphously perverse sovereign Self.”

“Not so...”

It’s very hard to have a conversation with a lack of specificity. I’ll take a wild guess that you are referring to my assertion that using the phrase “so help me God” has always been customary.

If you read the context of what I said in the prior two posts, you’ll see that I pointed out that some groups, such as Quakers, did not do so. There may have always been conscientious objectors so-to-speak. But it has also always been historically customary in this nation to invoke God at swearing in.

A lot of folks want to rewrite history to argue these words should not be included. As you’ve pointed out, they’ve never been mandatory. But I assert they’ve always been customary. It is what people have traditionally said since before the nation began. It is like answering the phone with “hello” (or “bueno” if you’re Hispanic). No one makes you do these things, but they are customary.

The left will continue to align itself with God-haters who will try to remove all references to Him in history and modern ceremony. Who do they suppose the founders were referring to when they said our inalienable rights were endowed to us by our Creator?
