FULL TITLE: Alabama passes near-total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest: 25 to 6 vote becomes most restrictive anti-abortion measure passed since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973
Alabama lawmakers passed a bill on Tuesday banning nearly all abortions, including those in rape and incest cases.
The 25 to six vote makes it the most restrictive anti-abortion measure passed since the landmark Roe v. Wade case in 1973, which ruled that depriving women of the right to an abortion except to save the mother's life was unconstitutional.
Under the Alabama bill, the only exceptions are to safeguard the health of the mother, while doctors could face 10 years in prison for attempting an abortion and 99 years for actually carrying out the procedure.

As I said on one of the other threads, it’s too early for this.
The lower federal courts will strike it down and SCOTUS will not hear Alabama’s appeal.
Abortion because of rape is the worst reason for abortion, getting the rapist off the hook.
Said rapist should be in slave labor prison paying for the mother and child’s life instead. However, our courts seem well intent on holding legit fathers whose wife wronged them on child support for almost ever, even after said wife remarried with a dude who uses the child support as a welfare paycheck of his own

I agree with you. I also think rape should be an exception, but only for a limited number of days or weeks.

I fully agree.
Pushing the line to such an extreme will lead to less support. It is certain that this will be dialed back, and probably take other conservative positions with it.
It's hard to be excited when you know the courts are going to strike this down almost immediately.
You would force a woman to relive that five minutes every day for the rest of her life with the product of that rape? Not everybody has the will to overcome that. What would that do to the person's psyche?

One can only imagine how much incest/rape has been covered up by murdering the baby.

Should a child of incest be automatically murdered, according to your wisdom?
How about those that are already born and turn out to have birth defects? Does that justify killing them?
Who decides when a pregnant 13-year-old should keep her baby or not? Her? The rapist? You? What if she wants to have the baby, do you still see no reason?
Contrary to popular dogma, very young girls who are capable of getting pregnant are usually also capable of healthy child birth. The main reason this is not often the case is due to efforts to coverup the pregnancy, not getting proper medical care or nutrition, or the generally poor living conditions that often contribute to such young girls getting pregnant in the first place. (For example, when her pimp kicks her in the stomach to try to cause her to miscarry.) With proper care and support, both the young mothers and their babies are very likely to be well.

You might be surprised at the number of women who go ahead and bear that child despite who the father is. Why, because it’s her child too.
I’ve known many rape victimes who kept their babies, and know personally a family of children of incest who value their own lives.
It’s bad enough to jave to jave endured rape or incest, but to destroy that life is tje same as adding insult to injury. The child is the only bright spot in the horror.

In real life I’ve seen the product of rape and both are damn near sociopaths.
I’m not condoning abortion in that instance but i’m not gonna lie about what i know.
It’s brutal. The kid’s like will be brutal in a lot of instances.
People here live too much in a ### damn wonderland instead of getting out there and helping those who need the help because they weren’t aborted and were born into brutal neighborhoods with crackhead mothers or abusive/no fathers.
20 years after we cheer the birth of an inner city kid with these kinds of parents, we are screaming for the death penalty for him.
But at least we get to feel moral at the end of the day and that’s all that matters, right?
