If you want to go the Darwinist route, you could make the same or similar case for any act of aggression—survival of the fittest and all. Civilization is intended to curb that primary aggression. It is no excuse , but the fact is that rape has been virtually a universal occurrence in warfare anytime the combatants encounter civilians especially.
