Every time I think American sports teams cant get any dumber, they get dumber.
Last month the Philadelphia Flyers took down the statue of a woman who raised hundreds of millions of dollars to fight the Nazis because of a satirical song she sang in the 1930s and now the Chicago Cubs are banning a fan for flashing the okay hand gesture during a live broadcast.
Really, I swear to God, this happened.
It all started on May 7th when Chicago Cubs sideline reporter Doug Glanville gave a report and a fan behind him, whose face we cant see, flashed the peace sign and then followed it up with an okay sign.
Yep, The Ricketts family. The father gave his kids ownership of the team. Worst of all is the fat spinster left-wing sister.
Virtue signaling in its highest form. Only ticket sales will tell the value of the action
I’m a White Sox fan. The Cubs love to take great ball players, like Lou Brock, Greg Maddox, Jake Arieata and trade them.
I think they have a great team finally with Madden.
This guy is going to sue the crap out of the Cubs for labeling him a white racist. Then he will give them a new sign.....with just one middle finger!
Bet you can give the middle finger in Chicago and not get banned.
I’ve only seen a still and not the video, but it looks to me like he is making a mock gesture as if to flick. If it were an OK sign, the thumb and pointer finger would be touching tip to tip
Another reason not to watch baseball.
The Red Sox, Yankees and Cubs are all on my s list.
I saw a reply of the hand gesture - I have no idea what the gesture means and why everyone is so offended by it.
I’m calling a misdirection play here.
The Cubs want you to take your eye off the fact that they’ve just reinstated a wife-beater.
“I saw a reply of the hand gesture - I have no idea what the gesture means and why everyone is so offended by it.”
I’m 80, and my wife isn’t far from that landmark.
Neither of us have led sheltered lives, and we have no ideal what that sign means. Our 50+ year olds and their ladies are at a loss to what that means.
That used to be an OK for us old people.
The Circle Game is a game of peripheral vision, trickery and motor skills. The game starts out when the Offensive Player creates a circle with their thumb and forefinger somewhere below his waist. The goal is to trick another person into looking at his hand. If the victim looks at the hand, he has lost the game, and is subsequently hit on the bicep with a closed fist, by the offensive player.
You are showing your age. Lou Brock is a mostly forgotten baseball great.
When did the okay hand gesture become “racist?”
