California high-speed rail project’s estimated cost rises to $79B, report says
Fox News ^ | May 01 2019 | Dom Calicchio

Critics of California’s plan to link the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas by high-speed rail have cited the estimated cost of the project – and now that cost is projected to increase by about $2 billion, according to a report.

The state’s High-Speed Rail Authority now estimates that the plan will cost about $79 billion – with the price of the Central Valley segment already under construction rising from $10.6 billion to $12.4 billion, Bloomberg reported.

The revised cost estimates were attributed to changes in the scope of the project and planning for contingencies, the report said.

Liberals are good at switching names of projects when it suits them. They’ll rename it the “Safe-Speed Bike Project” and make it a bike path through the Central Valley. It’s never going to be built between SF and LA. And Congress should pull funding away from it. Maybe this is why Pelosi was grinning about doing a $2T infrastructure bill. It’s up to President Trump to veto it if any more money is directed to California’s rail project.

Not really. Gavin Newsom implied that he was pulling the plug on it in his state-of-the-state address a few months ago. But when there was an inevitable backlash from the climate-change crowd (and also, undoubtedly, from the contractors and consultants who are enriching themselves on this boondoggle), Gavvy walked it back and declared that he just meant that he wanted to concentrate on the first phase or something like that. The project is still more or less a “go.”

I think if LA had concentrated just on it’s own region, and built a ridership pattern....a better use of the money (probably less than a billion a year) could have been used to focus just on that region. Trying to make this into an entire state ‘gimmick’ was the failure route to this. Go ask the population just how thrilled they are to go and spend $200 for a round-trip ticket to SF for high-speed rail travel....you won’t find more than one-percent of the population who desires this.

President Trump has been looking into canceling any more federal funds and clawing back what we already gave them.

A monument to liberal asininity. A train that would have gone to a nothing town in the high desert.

I thought it was killed too. I read recently that the section already built in Fresno is not designed for high (bullet) speed.

I knew pulling the plug was too good to be true and probably wouldn’t happen.

I loathe Gruesome.

They're doing it. They're not doing it. They're doing it.

The internet is approaching surrealism these days.

The wall is being built. The wall isn't being built. The wall is being built, but only 200 feet of fencing......

But you replace the California union labor with nonunion labor from Kentucky and the price drops to $450,000.

I predict it will cost $125 billion. Then, once it is going, they will find that the trains are faulty, the ground they are on was not properly prepared, the steel used is faulty, and $25 billion is unaccounted for.
