Sweeping class-action lawsuit could force unions nationwide to refund millions in fees
Fox News ^ | May 1, 2019 | Greg Re

Two University of California system employees claim they are effectively being held "against their will" and forced to pay monthly union dues, despite a landmark Supreme Court ruling last summer barring public-sector unions from requiring nonmembers to pay so-called agency fees without their consent.

The June 2018 decision in Janus v. AFSCME sent shockwaves through organized labor, holding not only that public unions violated the First Amendment by taking money out of unwilling workers' paychecks to fund collective bargaining, but also that employees must "clearly and affirmatively consent" before any fees or dues are collected.

This is HUGE, especially in CA, the likely outcome being just in time for the 2020 election. Being a civil rights case, the plaintiffs are likely to get attorney fees and damages.

It would be lovely if this was also for retroactive service. I could use 33 years of union dues returned to me.

This is WHY union leadership is going to get behind Joe Biden. Bigtime.

Biden will do card check, and that quite literally is the only thing that could save them at this point.

Somebody or a lot of somebodies will die before this is allowed to happen. This is messing with both the Democrat Party’s and the union bosses’ money. This will not be allowed without a lot of blood being shed.

Emphasis on ‘Forced’.
The Corruption in Unions has always been a problem since they control the due’s purse strings. Since Government has basically taken over their job of protecting workers, I guess they have too much idle time.

Liberal culture is so ingrained in academia it is toxic. Someone asked me, “How can you be a teacher without a teacher’s union?”
My answer: Lots of people teach at private schools without being in teacher’s unions. And the fact that there is a plumber’s union proves unions don’t make you a teacher ... or a plumber. Job training does.

Absolutely right.

Unfortunately, since most of these monstrosities are written by staff members, there is little chance to make sure these unions don’t get back that money - and more.

Few of us are old enough to remember the union goons vs company ‘enforcers.’ and strikes galore of the twenties and thirties. The longshoreman union could shut down the ports. A Reagan-style firing of them could hasten onset of Civil War II. Whether that is a good thing or bad, the affiant sayeth not. But if anyone could do it, it’s Trump.

This may well end up making Bruce Rauner a success as Governor of Illinois, despite failing at most everything else. Janus is on him.
