"In fact, more than 50 percent of EVs sold in 2017 were sold in California. And the University of California Berkeley’s Energy Institute at Haas found that Americans in the top 20 percent of income earners received on average 90 percent of the federal tax credits for EVs." How many of these elitist EVers voted for Obama, Clinton and will support the rat's latest freak for president?

Earlier this month we did an 800 mile road trip in our diesel. Most of our trip was done at 65MPH in perfect Interstate driving conditions but about 100 miles featured horrible conditions. We started with a full tank, didn't buy a drop of fuel while away and when we got home the "distance to empty" reading was "10 miles".

And it took us about 4 minutes to fill the tank when we were done.

When electric vehicles can do that I'll consider one.But until then...NO THANKS!

They want to kill the oil industry and be the leader with green energy. Only these rocket scientists are empty up stairs and are lucky they can go to the bathroom by themselves. They could give a rats a## about the environment, people, air water etc, its all about control

If you like redistributing wealth to richer people, you should love EVs.

But if the subsidies save even one sale...it’s for the planet!

(well, not really, but I digress).

If you extend this logic you get more questions: Why should someone pay for someone else's health care? Why should someone pay for someone else's food? Why should someone pay for someone else's housing? etc. All very good questions.

Just because one person is a more productive member of society does this justify seizing the fruits of their labors and bestowing it on those who aren't as productive? This country is based on equality of opportunity, but the leftists and their loser supporters want it based on equality of outcome. If I work twice as hard as someone else then what moral justification is there for taking what I've earned and giving enough of it the other person so that we have the same outcome? Socialism has failed to deliver its promises EVERY time it has been tried (read William Bradford) Socialism is the philosophy of envious incompetent losers, and now I've answered my own question. We have a lot of envious incompetent losers in this country.

Electric vehicles are colossally stupid until the power grid is upgraded to support them. Until that happens they are just a “look at me” novelty for tree huggers.

The government subsidized airlines at one point. It subsidizes home ownership right now. Maybe some things need subsidizing until technology can catch up otherwise the technology would never be developed. Electric cars are a good thing, especially if you live in the Central Valley of California like I do. Eventually, when electric cars are 25% of the vehicles on the road I imagine it will start to lower gasoline costs because of less demand. Many owners of electric cars are middle class. What I don’t like is that most of them are liberals environmental wackos. There are some of us who are just excited about the technology.

In Wisconsin, our new radically left governor has proposed that the state build charging stations all along the interstates. No free enterprise, no free market, no demand. Taxpayers will subsidize the building of these stations so the elite and well-connected can travel the highways wrapped in an environmentally safe cocoon in a fairly land of their own making.

Meanwhile, the state is shutting down coal fired power plants because they are “terrible” polluters and politically incorrect, conflicting with the fairy land were wind turbines - which magically do not kill birds and bats by the thousands - generate enormous power night and day for all those magical dreaming people in their self-driving electric cars.

All of this comes out of Madison (Madtown) which gives California loonies a run for their money and may well beat them.

Where is the dead battery graveyard going to be located? Has a state been designated? I’m voting for California right next to the wind farms.

When I see an EV pick up that has the towing capacity of a F450, or an EV that can haul 15 people and tow a 25 foot boat, then I’ll buy one...

A while back, I got into a rather heated debate with someone about this. I have no problem admitting that I’m not 100% on the differences between tax deductions, tax credits, etc, and so on. Personally, I really don’t care. What I do care about is the government picking winners and losers in an attempt to lure the taxpayer into buying something and at some point that money is going to be paid by someone, other than the guy that purchased the car.

John Stossel did a story on his show about Corporatism & Crony Capitalism and highlighted a company that made energy efficient windows, that spelled this out.

In Georgia, I think you’d get a $5000 tax credit or something like that if you got an EV. At first there was only Tesla, at about $100k a piece. The folks that got them were rich folks that could afford a $100k, Sunday Driver. An old car salesman told me once that simplest way to figure out a car payment would be to take what you’re financing and every $1000 of financing would be $20 of your car payment and that would get you in the ballpark of what you were going to be paying. Finance $20k, you have a $400/month car payment.

So, some guy wants a Tesla, drops $50K on down payment, still owes $50k, roughly $1000/month note. If he can afford that, he doesn’t need the taxpayers $5000.

And it looks like the data is showing that without tax breaks/incentives, sales are slowing down.

Our Government 'elites' set up programs that benefit themselves? I'm shocked I tell you, shocked./s

‘Nevertheless, EV advocates want taxpayers to continue to pay billions so that affluent drivers in coastal areas like California can receive significant tax breaks they don’t need or deserve.’

The extra $1.50 for gas that people in California pay due to Cap-and-Trade should be more than enough for the state to pay any subsidies to people who really need 6,000 pound ‘sustainable’ vehicles to drive to work and back.

I have long thought that electric cars were mostly toys for rich people that I help pay for.

And greedy corporations do not need tax dodging H1Bs either... and yet they are rolling out regularly. Anybody but Americans. Think of the billions they have avoided... want to build a wall or two? Make corporations live by the same tax rules we do

Our non-profit tax deductable crap is worse... Elites throw big parties for their own benefit that toss a few bucks to charity and write the whole thing off...

It’s time to STOP giving ‘elites’ tax benefits they don’t need... on every level... electric cars, balls, stupid ‘fashion show’ etc etc... if a charity is worth giving to it’s worth NOT taking a deduction.
