They retired As a Long Beach State graduate I have already informed the university and alumni association not to bother to send solicitations for donations. And I have dumped all my Long Beach State gear.

Can’t imagine there are too many of these at the college campus to be offended by anything!
The only solution to the problem is for schools to ban “mascots” other than symbols that are neutral splotches of color or patterns of lines with no discernible relation to anything living or in nature. Some colors like red, blue, green and mauve would of course also fall under the ban.
I don’t want or care to know why.
