Do judges have to members of the bar?

Here in Pennsylvania they do. Personally I find that Constitutionally dubious, and if I'm ever independently wealthy I may toss my hat into a judge's race to try and prove my point.

In Massachusetts anyone can be a judge. It is an appointed position, not elected. Most are political appointees who contributed to the Governor’s campaign.

I’m surprised they got an indictment in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts. Andrew Lelling has been a busy little lad, what with this and Admissionsgate on his plate.
