The National Rifle Association is used to battling forces that criticize its fiery and unbending efforts to protect gun rights. But as the group gathers for its annual convention this week, the NRA may be facing its toughest foe in decades: its own members.
NRA insiders and longtime observers describe an organization at war with itself over a central question: Has it strayed too far from its original mission of gun safety and outdoor shooting sports and become too political?
It is rare for the NRA to betray any hint of internal turmoil. But it erupted very publicly recently when the NRA sued its longtime public relations firm, Ackerman McQueen, accusing it of refusing to hand over financial records to account for its billings. In 2017 alone, the NRA paid the firm $40 million.
Ackerman McQueen has been by the NRAs side for two decades and has crafted its aggressive messaging, including the From my cold dead hands line uttered by actor Charlton Heston in 2000 as he vowed to resist any effort to take away his guns. The line became a rallying cry for gun owners around the country. [ ]
The strife is expected to be a dominant topic of conversation at the convention starting Thursday in Indianapolis, where President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will address the crowd on Friday. The NRA spent $30 million helping Trump get elected in 2016.

Most likely fake news, considering it’s a bimbo working for AP!
I quess the Associated Press just reminded me that it is time for me to call the NRA to thank them and make a quick donation.
The NRA was founded as a civil rights organization, in part, so that newly freed blacks could arm and defend themselves from the KKK.
CNN, you ignorant slut...
FAKE NEWS.
There is currently a lawsuit about the NRA’s finances. It seems several former employees have been given sweetheart “consulting” gigs in the mid to high 6 figures. And the company that does all the fundraiser mailings has been paud over $60 million with no oversight. https://www.ammoland.com/2019/04/nras-dirty-laundry-exposed-as-pro-gun-group-cleans-house/?fbclid=IwAR0XplirSTtxTIvySA2_hxuhQ8n7QUbzhrfXFr7m5x6fYlMs6yiP37gvbI4#ixzz5lfgc9RUr
Fudds gotta Fudd.
Whenever I need a status check on healthcare, I go to Hillary Clinton.
Whenever I need a status check on the NRA, I go to the Associate Press.
:)
Thats a man, baby!
What was I thinking.?
The Harry Reid side of the NRA is re-engaged.
I thought we got rid of these guys back in 2000
What percent of NRA support is from sportspeople and target shooters, and what percent is from gun manufacturers?
Agreed. There actually is a small sect of cucks in the NRA that pee themselves whenever Dana Loesch makes their stupid wives sad.
Thank you so much for this information. I have not renewed my NRA membership for a number of years because I have had the feeling that it had strayed from it’s mission. Also because it has supported RATs running for public office simply because on gun issues, the individual was on the NRA’s “side.” That, in and of itself is reason enough not to support it! Is there any indication as to how this litigation is going? From the sound of it, the NRA begins to look like our Congress. LaPierre needs to go.
Wayne Lapierre recognized that gun right are tied to civil rights and that the days of the NRA being a “one issue” organization had to end.
The dangers of a growing socialist/fascist government means organizations like the NRA need to be about more than one issue. Freedom is not just firearm rights....freedom consists of many rights.
You might consider reading the Knox column in Ammoland.
I have bee an NRA member for many years and I believe it is mainly supported by member dues. It has a political lobbying group, the ILA, that sponsors state laws such as preemption to keep local cities from passing gun laws tougher than state laws. That too is supported by member donations. Firearm-related companies can donate to the NRA but also have an industry lobby group that they finance to keep the feds and states like NJ from passing laws against guns or gun parts. Member money is the biggest part of NRA income.
Let’s agree to just call it fake news and wishful thinking...
