Pelosi: Dems shouldn't impeach Trump 'for a political reason'

Speaking at the inaugural Time 100 Summit, Pelosi also called the Trump administration an “existential threat” to “our democracy in terms of our Constitution,” when asked about what her party's response should be to the findings of special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian attempts to influence the 2016 presidential election. “It’s about the presentation of the facts, and when we have the facts we’ll have a better idea of how we go forward.”

“What we did learn is that the Russians had a systemic overall assault on our electoral system and what we also did see is that the president of the United States engaged in a behavior that was unethical, unscrupulous and beneath the dignity of the office that he holds,” Pelosi said.

“What’s surprising about it,” she continued, “is the Republicans seem to have an unlimited appetite for this kind of behavior, and instead of being ashamed of what that report said they gave their blessing once again to the president.”

Pelosi called it a “really a sad day for our country to see that report come out with all the inconsistencies in it.”

The Hillary report is on deck.

Impeachment, by definition is a political act! Congress is using Constitutional, political power to impeach a President.

“[1] What we did learn is that the Russians had a systemic overall assault on our electoral system and what we also did see is that [2] the president of the United States engaged in a behavior that was unethical, unscrupulous and beneath the dignity of the office that he holds,”

[1] the assertion is simply false. The Russians spent a minimal amount, about $100,000, on Facebook ads that could not possibly represent a "systematic overall assault" on our electoral system. Hillary Clinton spent something in excess of $1 billion.

[2] the assertion that the president behaved unethically, unscrupulously, or beneath the dignity of the office is at best a conflation of his perfectly true public pronouncements concerning the "witch hunt" and his private fulminations about the unfairness of the witch hunt. To conclude that these pronouncements somehow are unethical or unscrupulous or beneath the dignity of the office requires a very selective memory when it comes to the behavior of Kennedy, Johnson, Clinton and Obama whose behavior was objectively and substantively far worse, even criminal, than the most negative inferences that can be drawn about Trump.

Speaker Pelosi raises the bar describing the dignity of the office to apply to Trump the minute he was inaugurated.

“Impeachment, by definition is a political act!”

Right. And isn’t there a “high crimes and misdemeanors” requirement, too? And don’t the high crimes and misdemeanors have to have been committed while in office? (Bubba committed perjury while in office.)

So why is Elijah Cummings asking for Trump’s records from before his presidency? They aren’t pertinent.

>Pelosi also called the Trump administration an “existential threat” to “our democracy in terms of our Constitution,”

What Constitution is she reading? Is there a restriction on conservatives getting elected president? If there were any requirements for work history or a functioning brain, Obama wouldn't have qualified. We all know he didn't qualify on the citizenship question.

Nice try, Nance...

Trying to convince us that, when you begin the impeachment process, that there is legitimate evidence of ‘high crimes and misdemeanors, not just a serious case of Trump derangement syndrome?

Good luck with that...

One other thing. Pelosi sign the document stating Obama was the Rats convention choice to be their presidential candidate, not one that said he was qualified under the Constitution as I recall. I think she had to sign a second statement stating he was qualified, so he could get on the ballot in Hawaii. The Democraps in Hawaii knew he wasn’t qualified and need the second statement from Pelosi for cover.

Yes, Nancy Pelosi is a vile, nasty, dishonest individual who is inclined to tyranny. She is a perfect example of a career politician who hangs on to political power and authority without any notable accomplishments in any other sphere of human activity.

For attempting to discredit his accusers, President Trump is accused of obstructing justice???? His claims of innocence are indicative of his guilt????

Isn’t this particular fallacy the very definition of a witch hunt?

Come 2020, I hope the absurdity of all this is not totally lost on the voting public.

Your assessment is dead on. He was angry and acted out because of illegal spying, illegal investigations, dirty political tricks, and absolute disregard of the Constitution by Democrats and the last POTUS illegal actions. This anger isn’t beneath the office, it SHOULD BE EXPECTED.
