More than anything else, Claudia Navarro wanted health insurance for her children when she arrived in the United States.
Navarros daughter has spina bifida a congenital condition her doctors in Mexico said would kill the girl within a year. But Navarro didnt give up on her baby. Instead, she brought her two young children to the U.S. to seek medical help. She obtained limited Medi-Cal benefits for her child, despite her immigration status, and arranged treatments that kept her daughter alive.
Now, 27 years later, Navarro worries that her decision to seek benefits could threaten her chances at becoming a legal U.S. resident.
Shes focused on proposed federal restrictions that would place new limits on who can qualify for a green card. The rule change would broaden who the immigration system defines as a public charge essentially a taxpayer burden and includes an expanded list of federal taxpayer-funded public benefits that would count against immigrants, including food stamps and Medi-Cal, the states health program for low-income individuals and families.
Under the new rules, which are still under review, immigrants also could be denied a green card if they are deemed likely to depend on federal benefits in the future, even if they havent applied for them yet.

Maybe the socialist Mexican government should help these poor people.
In a way they did. They dumped them on us.

Claudia, Santa Claus isn’t real.
If this is supposed to be a sob story it failed.
Remember the movie Elysium?
27 years later, NOW she’s worried about being able to become a legal citizen? Yea, right... if you didn’t bother to do it in 30 years, you sure were never serious about doing it.
Stupid propaganda
After 27 years here, she didn’t become a citizen?
So let’s sum up
Left Mexico because their socialist health care and economy sucks
Made herself and her children complete wards of the state and taxpayers
has stayed as an illegal in the USA for 27 years
May want to apply for a green card somehow in the future
Is upset that Trump or someone may take away her gravy train.
Got it?
Cry me a river. We are full, STAY HOME.
When I was still on green card status, I never went on ANY govt aid. It’s against the rules and a roadblock to citizenship. However, Im sure this stupid state will still help these damn moochers just to spite Trump..
Just like me, you have 10 DAMN YEARS for the green card to run. That’s 10 years and you are eligible to apply for citizenship on the 5th year. I have Canadian friends who renewed TWICE instead of applying straight but they have their reasons...unlike this idiot.
can tell by this that dems are REALLY scraping for excuses to dispute Trump’s immigration policies
she missed the boat, as they say
27 years of welfare and taxpayer paid medical care and services are enough. Bill Mexico for any treatment of a Mexican citizen. And DEPORT them on first contact with welfare, medical care, etc.
Its against the rules and a roadblock to citizenship
True! My mother never collected gov aide for that reason!
Why do we always hear from the “Progressives” they never collect such benefits?
Why are the military buses NOT transporting these parasite to sanctuary cities and states. Trump said “ I WILL DO IT” !! What is going on? Was this like “I Will close the border”? Crying wolf is losing its impact.
Priority must be given to those who go through proper channels to become Americans. Those who break the rules and/or game the system need to be denied even a chance at a green card or citizenship until they’ve fully repaid every cent of government assistance they’ve received and then return to their home country to begin the process.
Reward the leeches and it encourages others to become leeches. Punish the leeches and it’ll dissuade others from emulating them.
And we should stop any and all forms of foreign aid to all countries to the south of us. Permanently. Redirect those funds to building the wall.
Boo fricken hoo
Wait...
Did she want insurance or for somebody else to pay the bills?
Those two ain't the same.
“I need asylum, because my country is terrible.”
I don’t think that’s how that was supposed to work. Ron Johnson’s asylum reforms are worth a look.
My wife got a green card and lived with me in America for 10 years, then she moved with me to Spain and gave it up. My first wife was from Peru. Her father got a green card and only used it for hassle-free travel between Peru and America. Our neighbors here in Spain got green cards so they could travel to Minnesota and watch their grandchildren while their daughter, who is married to an American citizen, undergoes chemotherapy for leukaemia. Not everyone sees the green card as a way to get welfare.
