Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ thriller, caught fire in March.

Regardless of who started it, the muzzies will be enjoying it. It’s now time to see what the French people are made of. If there isn’t an appropriate response they will get more of the same.

There was a six million dollar renovation project underway. They are conjecturing that something involved in the construction might have started the fire. At any rate it is a grave cultural and religious loss for the people of France, Catholics and anyone in the world who cares about all the cultural contributions of the human race.
The picture reminds me of the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9/11.
If it had been a mosque burning the Fire Brigade would have been there in record time to put out the flames. Shameful!
I’m not Catholic, but as a Christian and as someone who values historic sites, this is an incredibly sad day.
My condolences go out to the Catholic faithful on this tragedy. I hope this event will finally wake up the French people, but it’s doubtful.
I’m sure that today is a day of celebration for the Somalian witch from Minnesota and her ilk.

Catholic churches in France are the property of the French government. I’m sure the government made the decisions about who worked on the renovation.

The 870 year old original has been lost. No recreation effort can duplicate it. It is simply irreplaceable.
The start of the fire would have been several hours ago by now. Looks like they’d at least have any eyewitness accounts from workers or church personnel by now, or have determined that there were none.
And no mention of any people being injured inside the cathedral, AFAIK.
The very basic information one might expect by now has not been presented yet.

The Paris Fire Brigade (French Army) renowned fire fighting skills will be put to the task fighting this fire. Visited Paris about five years ago and saw them put on a display, for dignitaries (my wife and I just happened by), it was in close proximity to Napoleon’s tomb in a large courtyard at the French Military Museum.
