APNewsBreak: Trump campaign to report $30 million haul

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Donald Trump's reelection campaign is set to report that it raised more than $30 million in the first quarter of 2019, edging out his top two Democratic rivals combined, according to figures it provided to The Associated Press.

The haul brings the campaign's cash on hand to $40.8 million, an unprecedented war chest for an incumbent president this early in a campaign.

The Trump campaign said nearly 99% of its donations were of $200 or less, with an average donation of $34.26.

Trump's fundraising ability was matched by the Republican National Committee, which brought in $45.8 million in the first quarter — its best non-election year total. Combined, the pro-Trump effort is reporting $82 million in the bank, with $40.8 million belonging to the campaign alone.

Trump formally launched his reelection effort just hours after taking office in 2017, earlier than any incumbent has in prior years. By contrast, former President Barack Obama launched his 2012 effort in April 2011 and had under $2 million on hand at this point in the campaign.

Obama went on to raise more than $720 million for his reelection. Trump's reelection effort has set a $1 billion target for 2020.

Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement that Trump "is in a vastly stronger position at this point than any previous incumbent president running for re-election, and only continues to build momentum."

Trump's fundraising with the RNC is divided between two entities: Trump Victory, the joint account used for high-dollar gifts, and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, the low-dollar digital fundraising operation known internally as "T-Magic." The campaign is set to launch a traditional "bundling" program — which it lacked in 2016 — in the coming weeks. Bundlers are mid-tier donors who bring in contributions from...

I am on a 17-day business trip that has taken me to 15 different states. It will be 16 by the time I’m done next week. I saw my first “Trump 2020” signs already. MAGA.

Back in the day I got myself on 2 or 3 gun control groups mailing lists. Every time I got a letter from them with a handy postage paid envelope I’d stuff it full of plate washers and send it back.

Great fun.

I hate to disappoint you, but you will need to donate a lot more than that to meet Trump. A mere $4,000 or so won’t do it.

“3 - I am sending nothing because I don’t support Trump or Republicans at all...”

Seriously? If so it’s like they are trying cover the lack of money by blaming it on Trump.

><><

They’re not blaming Trump.

They’re playing on making people feel guilty.

Jeez, everything is not blaming Trump. Read it again and you might get it.

Aside from judicial appointments, which Republicans are slow-walking, my guess is that too much of what Trump has set out to do is all talk, little physical results and will just as quickly disappear. Or, more likely, be swamped by the invasion of illegals getting in under his watch. Sadly, even if the border was closed tomorrow, there are millions already in the country, 30-60 million. And the number leaving are not being talked about because they are so incredibly few.

How much did you bundle for Cruz? If I recall correctly, you once wrote $80,000.

I’m aiming at the future, not the past. You should too.

Yet you talk about Thompson and entirely skip Cruz. A Never Trumper waiting to tout Cruz? Why hide your previous bundling and constant support for Cruz? I don’t recall you saying it was wrong, never apologize for it, etc. Anyway, if we can’t be honest about the past, what does the future portend?

The most insulting part is they give 3 payment options:

1 - I am sending $50+ in support of RNC...

2 - I don’t have much but am sending $15 to cover processing fee for the survey. (which they most likely don’t read anyway)

3 - I am sending nothing because I don’t support Trump or Republicans at all...

I chose option 4 - Straight into the shredder unopened...

With political donations I will go to directly to the candidates website I want to support. I never respond or even look at direct mail requests.

"The Trump campaign said nearly 99% of its donations were of $200 or less, with an average donation of $34.26."

This to me is an important stat in the story. That means there are a lot of people donating 20 bucks here, 100 bucks there. These are not big money donors, just regular people. And if you donate to the campaign, that means you are certainly going to vote for the man/woman.
