I suspect that Assange has a dead man’s switch set to dump incriminating evidence on many many more important people in all parts of the world. He knew at some point he would be evicted.
Perhaps certain US Justice Dept. officials would like to meet Assange about certain investigations and pressured the Ecuadorian government to allow the British cops in.
A lot more people may be nervous now, especially combined with Barr’s statement yesterday.
I would be shocked if he DIDN’T have a dead man’s switch in place.

He said that at some point in the past, didn’t he? I’m sure he’s clever enough to have a sort of safety net in case the SHTF.
I would be very surprised if he didn’t have a few surprises left.
I'm suspicious by nature and would take a good guess that those who have been wanting him in custody have been working feverishly to short circuit any such dead-man's switch before they take him.
If true, it would seem that Julian's arrest has proven that their efforts have been successful. We shall see.
Good point. And... if no trove of valuable information is released, then Assange agreed to be arrested for some higher purpose. This is very interesting...
