Sen. Ted Cruz Says Closing US-Mexico Border ‘Would Be Devastating To Texas’ (doesn't have to be)
CBS ^

WASHINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – While he has expressed support for President Donald Trump’s plans for a border wall, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a statement he is against closing the border to slow the flow of South American migrants and asylum seekers.

“Closing the border to legal commerce would be devastating to Texas. Millions of jobs, in Texas and across the country, depend upon trade with Mexico, and the federal government shouldn’t do anything to jeopardize those jobs,” Sen. Cruz said.

Would someone please explain how closing the border at the LEGAL entry points stops illegals from sneaking across everywhere else that doesn’t have a wall or fence?

This makes no sense to me.

It’s like locking out all visitors to your house at the front door because burglars keep coming in your OPEN windows.... that will remain open when you lock down the door.

It’s like banning all guns. It only hurts legal law abiding citizens

How does this stop illegals?

Do you think their gonna say “oh trump said the border is closed so we’ll turn around? “

As near as I can tell, the Serious Cruzbots clocked out after 3 pm yesterday, and haven’t woken up yet to tell us how Rafael didn’t mean what he said.

It would be worse for Mexico...

Start collecting names and ‘addresses’ of every cartel member and every Mexican politicians being paid of by them... In a year declare war, move in and kill all of ‘em... all the thugs - - then hand the government back to what's still standing.

Mexico needs to get a grip on their criminals.

How about taking a few hundred at a time, flying them back to Honduras, letting them off the plane, and leaving? or disabling the plane if it’s not allowed to take off and come back here. Expensive but cheaper than the alternative.

That’s better. :)

http://www.worldstopexports.com/mexicos-top-import-partners/

Below is a list showcasing 15 of Mexico’s top trading partners in terms of its
export sales. That is, countries that imported the most Mexican shipments by
dollar value during 2018. Also shown is each import country’s percentage of
total Mexican exports.

United States: US$344.9 billion (76.5% of total Mexico’s exports)
Canada: $14.1 billion (3.1%)
China: $7.2 billion (1.6%)
Germany: $7.1 billion (1.6%)
Brazil: $4.4 billion (1%)
Colombia: $3.5 billion (0.8%)
Japan: $3.3 billion (0.7%)
Netherlands: $2.4 billion (0.5%)
South Korea: $2.3 billion (0.5%)
United Kingdom: $2.2 billion (0.5%)
Chile: $2.1 billion (0.5%)
Belgium: $2 billion (0.4%)
Guatemala: $1.95 billion (0.4%)
Italy: $1.78 billion (0.4%)
France: $1.77 billion (0.4%)
Well over nine-tenths (88.9%) of Mexican exports in 2018 were delivered to the above 15 trade partners.

Italy led the increases among countries purchasing products exports from Mexico
via a 34.6% value expansion from 2017 to 2018. In second place were exporters
in Canada (up 23.8%) trailed by shippers in the Netherlands (up 20%), Brazil
(up 19.7%) then Chile (up 15%).

Five year-over-year decliners were South Korea (down -33.4%), Japan (down
-18.9%), France (down -7.4%), Belgium (down -4.7%) then the United Kingdom
(down -2.7%).

Beck is a fool. He is trying to become a little god that his leader Smith said he could become and rule his own little planet. The Mormons promise him he will get to be a little god if he pumps enough dough into their coffers, and he can move up the ladder and become god for a day.

Getting really tired of propagandists that cherry pick one or two sentences to push their narrative.

Cruz is correct. Closing the border to LEGAL crossings, would hurt Texas fundamentally.

Cruz was also right with the rest of his statement:

The answer is not to punish Texas farmers and ranchers and manufacturers and small businesses. Closing legal points of entry would harm American commerce and legal transit between Mexico and the United States, and leave coyotes and human traffickers to roam free in the wilderness of our unsecured border.

It is time for Democrats in Congress to finally do their jobs. We must build a wall, enforce the laws currently on the books, and support the brave men and women of the CBP with all the resources they need to effectively secure our border. Moreover, the Senate should take up and pass legislation closing loopholes in our asylum system, increasing the number of immigration judges, and providing expedited processing for asylum claims—so that those without who do not qualify for asylum can be quickly returned to their home countries rather than being released into the United States.

BTW, why do you think Trump backed off his stance of closing the ports of entry.... and came up with placing stiff auto tariffs on Mexico?

Same reasons Cruz pointed out.......hurting Texas wouldn't achieve Trump's aim of protecting Texas....and could even cost him Texas support in 2020.

Why would Cruz think closing the land border affects the ability of Texas with some of the worlds largest seaports like Port Houston to have goods shipping both to and from Central/South America and Mexico ?

Some advisor probably told him that making such a statement will help shore up his support amongst Texas Hispanic voters!

The 1924 immigration act restricted legal immigration into the U.S. and imposed ethnic quotas.
That's American, (not Nazi), law and was enforced by Presidents Coolidge, Hoover, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy.

Pres Eisenhower, who led the Allies to victory over Germany, sent Gen. Joseph Swing to the U.S. border to remove a million people who had entered Texas illegally from Mexico, which the general proceeded to do. Ike had crushed fascism and understood that securing the homeland against illegal mass migration is fascism only in the minds of those who have forgotten, if ever they knew, what a country is.

From his words and actions, Trump clearly senses that this may be the existential issue of his presidency:
Can he secure the border against what seems to be an unstoppable invasion from the global south?

Nor is this strictly an American issue. In the capitals of Europe -- Budapest, Berlin, Paris, Rome, London, Madrid -- the gnawing fear is not of Vladimir Putin recreating Stalin's empire, but of the African and Muslim hundreds of millions looking hungrily north to the pleasant lands of the former mother countries.

You apparently have no clue as to the ways illegals and drugs get across the border. Haven’t you ever heard of a semi full of illegals locked in a trailer, left to die in a desert? Or of the ways people and drugs can hide cushions or even in shirts and the like?

Basically, a BUNCH of illegal material and people come across through a “legal” means.

Get your head out.

Plenty of illegal people and drugs come across the border, through a legal means. Include in that the border officers who have been bought off who further let through such things.

Get you head out.

I LIVE in Texas..........am 6th generation Texan.

Have lived close to the border.....have family living on the border now.

Have family members who work for Border Patrol

Have family/friends in law enforcement....who deal with illegals more often than the media likes to report.

Have family/friends in the prison system that have to deal with convicted illegal alien criminals.

Knew (know) Mexican illegals, in most areas of Texas I have lived in, for the last 6+ decades....and have Mexican family.

Had an illegal alien TRAIL behind my present home, of 30 years, which eventually led me into participating in the Borders Watch live cam program.

Again, I agree with Cruz's statement that closing the LEGAL ports of entry won't stop this invasion....because there's nothing to stop them from crossing into the US through the unpatrolled/unprotected areas of our border.

So now........where do YOU live, and what personal experience/knowledge do YOU have with illegal aliens/illegal border crossings.....that makes you such an expert?

Or did you just stay at a Holiday Inn once?
