In “liberal” mythology, McCarthy and the House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC, of which Senator McCarthy obviously was not even a member) shut down the First Amendment rights of innocents. In reality, “Bias in the Media” was in full flower, and was neither intimidated by nor friendly to Senator McCarthy or HUAC.

In real life if First Amendment rights are suppressed in a country, people in that country don’t read about it in the papers.

Your comments in the thread, to me at least, have been obtuse and vague with respect to the discussion at hand. You seem to be critical of McCarthy, but not of those Communist witches that actually were found and did exist. It’s perilously close to repeating the media narrative that these were all “innocents”, when they most certainly weren’t.
