ISTANBUL President Recep Tayyip Erdogans party said Tuesday that it had submitted challenges to election results that showed its candidates had been defeated in Istanbul and Ankara, Turkeys largest cities, in local elections two days earlier that dealt a rare setback to Erdogan at the ballot box.
The Justice and Development Party, or AKP, has repeatedly prevailed in elections since 2002 and was the leading vote-getter on Sunday. But its losses in major cities including Istanbul, Turkeys financial capital were a significant symbolic defeat for Erdogan and threatened to weaken his powerful party machine, analysts said.

Now where did they learn that?
Per Stalin: “It’s not the people who vote that count, it’s the people who count the votes.”
As I posted in the other thread, I saw a speech by the editor of the main opposition media company, Zaman, after it was raided and taken over by Erdogans thugs 3 years ago. Nobody gets tired. Big city liberals might be a bit disappointed but rednecks elsewhere couldn’t be any happier. Anyone campaigning for the opposition would get beaten outside Istanbul and not by the police but by regular folks. He is not going anytime soon.
Yeah that’s a shame man.
We have a leader of a NATO country threatening Christians, basically, with his comments about NZ and the shooting.
That’s just great.
