Dem Sen. Merkley: The Electoral College ‘Diminishes the Legitimacy of Our President
Breitbart - Trending ^ | 4-1-2019 | Ian Hanchett

On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “OutFront,” Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), who has introduced legislation to eliminate the Electoral College, stated that the Electoral College “diminishes the legitimacy of our president, which is something else we should be deeply concerned about.”

Merkley said, “Well, we know the Electoral College, Erin, was founded on a rotten foundation. It was founded as an effort, as a strategy to accentuate the strength of those states who were slave states. And there’s just no justification for it now.

(snip)

(Merkley) later added that "… But certainly, recent history has shown that we have a system that the flaws have been exposed in, and it diminishes the legitimacy of our president, which is something else we should be deeply concerned about.” (Read it all)

So much wrong in this one, I don't even know where to start.

Who are this "we know the Electoral College was founded on a rotten foundation"?

WHY are so many of our elected representatives purposely don't read the Constitution nor our history?

Change the constitution by introducing a bill.

I guess he doesn’t understand that if the winner of the game was the one who got the most overall votes, candidate Trump would have changed his strategy.

I realize that the media coddles these morons, but it still amazes me that they can say some of the things they do, no matter how wrong or hateful, and never get called out on anything.

Now I could be way off, but I always thought the EC was to prevent, mob rule, and give the states some parity. Even though some have more votes than others, it’s still founded on the states being equal.

Wonder what happens when states like Cali and NY end up having their population numbers decreased with the, Citizen question, on the next census.

"... the Electoral College “diminishes the legitimacy of our president"

Evidently, the United States Senate diminishes the legitimacy of our Congress.

In ‘92 when Clinton won with less than 50% of the popular vote the Ministry of Truth blathered on and on about how wonderful the Electoral College was because “it magnified and legitimized his victory”.

Has anyone ever told them that they need to get the Constitution changed though legislation and ratification of the states? Until then they took an oath to uphold the Constitution as written.

Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) is so full of bull manure. These D people just lie and lie and lie. Gas-lighting does not work on me.

So all of the relatively unpopulated states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware, Maryland and Rhode Island were also against the electoral college when the Constitution was adopted?! Please show me the evidence of that. It probably wasn’t just the southern states of Georgia and South Carolina that wanted to have equal representation in the electoral college and the Senate.

What diminishes the legitimacy of the president is having the selection made by NYC, San Francisco and LA, which is what would happen without the EC.
