I had a similar experience. I no longer considered myself a Republican in 2016 - when it was clear the GOP leadership was trying to sabotage their duly elected nominee Trump. He was the overwhelming choice of rank and file Republicans and the only candidate capable of beating Hillary Clinton, but the GOPe didn’t care.
Does anybody seriously believe her son “Jeb!” would have beaten Hillary Clinton? BWAHAHWAHA!
She wanted Jeb to win and she wanted the Republican party to belong to ‘elites’... elites like her and her kids.

I do know that she was a BIG TIME PRO-CHOICE, as well as Laura Bush and her daughter Barbara so I wonder, if the elder Barbara Bush was ever a Republican, I doubt it.
