CLAYTON • A man who told police he toppled more than 100 headstones at a Jewish cemetery in University City in 2017 because he was drunk, on drugs and mad at a friend was sentenced Thursday to three years probation and a suspended sentence.
Alzado M. Harris, 35, of Northwoods, confessed to knocking over the headstones at the Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery in February 2017, causing more than $30,000 in damage, according to court documents.
Harris pleaded guilty Thursday to felony institutional vandalism. He was sentenced by St. Louis County Circuit Judge John Warner to three years probation along with requirements that he pay $5,000 in restitution, maintain full-time work, take an anger management course and not contact the victim, according to court records.
Harris confessed to toppling about 120 gravestones at the cemetery sometime between Feb. 17 and Feb. 20, 2017, according to University City police.
Police arrested Harris in April 2018, more than a year after the crime, after investigators matched his DNA with DNA found on a jacket pinned under a headstone at the scene, authorities told the Post-Dispatch in 2018.
The crime captured the country’s attention and drew widespread condemnation. The vandalism came at a time when Jewish community centers nationwide were getting a string of bomb threats — threats a different St. Louis-area man was eventually charged with making.

So his parents (mother?) decided to name him after a guy who took so many steroids in his career that he gave himself brain cancer and died at 43.

He should be sentenced to restoring the headstones as well as knowing the names and stories of all of those interred.
What a worthless, anti-semitic hater. This oaf should pay full restitution, including having to maintain the cemetery for 5 years or so. If not, he should be exiled.
It would be a different story if he was white. Hate crimes would be investigated and there would be jail time and a much higher fine.
