But I expect Trump will get the last word. He has to. The criminal actions of those people and organizations cannot go unpunished.

For the sake of his presidential legacy, and our country, this has to be the mother of all counter punches. Rudy and he have probably planned such a retaliatory strike for a long time. They want it to be shock and awe, a barrage of evidence that will demolish Mueller and the Deep State. At least I hope that is the plan.
As for Barr, to allow the DOJ and FBI to violate the trust placed in them by the American people would be a national disgrace. It would likely encourage others to do similar things to subvert our elections and the presidency itself.
You are absolutely correct in saying that the criminal actions of those people and organizations cannot go unpunished. If they are not, we will know beyond any shadow of a doubt that our government is thoroughly corrupt.
He's nearly two and a half years into a four year term and we've seen no evidence that Trump is willing to fight fire with fire. What's he waiting for?
Sure, he'll go to court in a heartbeat, but that is the weakest possible response from a president who already has the legal and constitutional authority to do his job. Had he been willing to use the full power of his office in the beginning, he could have put the other side on defense, and had them all running for cover.
