have no business what-so-ever being President of the USA.
The real reason we don't count the popular vote is that the people are not electing the President. When you vote in a presidential election you are voting for how you want your state to cast it's vote. It's the states that are electing the President. DJT is the President of the STATES not the people. The function of the EC is to compensate for the states with larger populations. California gets more electoral votes because they have more people. If we eliminate the EC then all the states would get one vote each. Fifty states, fifty votes and the majority wins with a tie break by congress. We would NEVER add all the peoples votes together because we don't have a president of the people. We have a President of the states. It says it right there in the title of the office. President Of The United States not president of the united people.
I have been saying this. Trump, being a winner, would win a popular vote. Different game, different strato.

The brilliance of the Electoral College is that you must go to many States to win. With the Popular Vote, you go to.... ....just the large States - the Cities would end up running the Country. Smaller States & the entire Midwest would end up losing all power - & we can’t let that happen. I used to like the idea of the Popular Vote, but now realize the Electoral College is far better for the U.S.A.

This should cause the Demwits to redouble their efforts to pass NPV -- a measure that will guarantee President Trump's reelection, as well as squirting lemon juice into the Demwits' and Libtards' eyes when the NY and CA electoral votes *have to* go to the Donald. They'll be on psych meds for years thereafter. And if they start to get cold feet, they'll NOT push for NPV, and can be called out on it, plus they'll lose in 2020 anyway. 4D chess.
